Job Description

The Manager of Web Experience & Optimization leads the strategy, user experience (UX), and continuous improvement of the ODUGlobal website. Serving as the product owner for the site, this role sets priorities and leads efforts that support enrollment goals and strengthen the university’s digital presence. The manager is a member of the Web Innovation & Strategy leadership team and works closely with the Executive Director of Web Innovation & Strategy to advance key initiatives that improve the website and support university goals. This position partners with colleagues across the university and with external vendors to guide web projects, improve content and site performance, and ensure the website remains accessible, effective, and user-focused. The role also leads and supports staff while using user feedback, analytics, and research to shape decisions and drive ongoing improvements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in User Experience (UX) / Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Information Technology, Information Systems, Digital Marketing, Communications, Web Development, or a related field required; or a Bachelor’s degree in one of the preceding fields with progressively responsible, related experience equivalent to a master’s degree.
  • Considerable knowledge of communications, marketing, and branding principles.
  • Considerable knowledge of customer service techniques to include understanding customer needs and effectively communicating options for problem resolution.
  • Working knowledge of web standards, best practices, accessibility needs, and user interface/experience design.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of current authoring languages, editing and authoring tools, and related website technologies, including content management systems.
  • Working knowledge of graphic design tools including, but not limited to the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Excellent collaboration, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse user constituents.
  • Demonstrated ability to set and communicate deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work without supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks with strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical and project leadership to team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide oversight and direction to team members.
  • Considerable experience writing, managing, and/or providing oversight for website content.
  • Some experience in communications and marketing.
  • Some experience working with diverse internal and external constituents.
  • Some experience providing website oversight and maintenance.
  • Some experience with structuring, developing, and implementing interactive Web sites.
  • Some experience leading and developing a department and department staff.
  • Some experience coaching, mentoring, and developing staff.

Additional Considerations

  • Considerable knowledge and understanding of Internet programming languages, including but not limited to, HTML, Javascript, CSS, and PHP.
  • Some previous experience managing website content in higher education.
  • Some experience managing web content using a CMS.
  • Some professional experience writing or creating original content for the Web.
  • Some experience managing digital photography and other digital assets.
  • Some expertise in metadata, particularly as related to digital photography and assets.
  • Some expertise using Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Prior supervisory experience in a technical environment including performance management.
