About the Role

The Senior Manager, DevOps, is a key leadership position responsible for managing a high-performing team dedicated to delivering cutting-edge technology for external customers, vendors, and clients. This role drives innovation and infrastructure excellence by overseeing critical infrastructure maintenance, ensuring peak performance, security, system backups, performance tuning, and upgrades.

You will manage the budget and guarantee seamless, 24-hour monitoring and support. This position is instrumental in supporting important security certification projects and working within federal client boundaries. Successful applicants must be US citizens with the willingness and ability to receive necessary security clearances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the DevOps team in managing client hosting infrastructure.
  • Follow current best DevOps practices for deployment, availability, performance, and automation.
  • Manage and participate in the on-call rotation as needed.
  • Provide technical expertise, recommendations, and evaluations to the management team.
  • Assist with coordinating tasks required for certification processes and procedures.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of department-wide security policies.
  • Support security certification activities (e.g., FedRAMP, SOC, ISO etc.).
  • Assist Sales with pricing non-standard implementations and infrastructure requests.
  • Manage the operations team to ensure the availability and reliability of the Moodle Services hosting platforms.
  • Coach and mentor DevOps team members.
  • Manage and prioritize team workloads.
  • Review priorities with the Global Head of Infrastructure to align work with strategic goals.
  • Represent the DevOps team to the wider company.
  • Be responsible for the career development and performance of direct reports.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Extensive experience as a technical lead or manager leading complex, distributed, and remote teams, particularly in large-scale environments.
  • Working experience using modern team management methodologies (Agile, SCRUM preferred).
  • Knowledge of best practices related to high availability, fault tolerance, performance, and disaster recovery.
  • 5 years of Linux/Unix system administration experience and AWS hosted infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, PHP, or shell scripting.
  • Extensive experience troubleshooting network, system, and application issues.
  • Amazing problem solving, analysis, and communication skills.
  • Availability for on-call support and occasional out-of-hours work.
  • US citizenship with willingness and ability to obtain appropriate security clearances for US government projects.

Preferred Experience

  • Configuring and supporting monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or NewRelic.
  • Experience with configuration management and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Experience working in a FedRAMP environment.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $120k - $135k, depending upon experience.
