The position encompasses comprehensive responsibilities across front-end and back-end development, APIs, databases, Drupal environments, web accessibility, testing, deployment, and continuous website maintenance. Beyond direct development contributions, this role involves coordinating developer assignments, monitoring project schedules and hours, overseeing quality control, and guiding projects from initial requirements through successful launch and ongoing maintenance.

What You’ll Do

Hands-On Web Development

  • Build, enhance, maintain, and troubleshoot responsive websites, web applications, dashboards, portals, webforms, and digital tools.
  • Develop front-end functionality using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks or libraries, emphasizing responsive design and accessibility.
  • Support back-end development, application logic, databases, authentication, APIs, integrations, and secure data workflows.
  • Integrate websites and applications with third-party systems like project management platforms, CRMs, email/marketing tools, dashboards, mapping tools, and reporting systems.
  • Support database queries, imports, exports, data connections, and structured data management.
  • Troubleshoot bugs, broken integrations, performance issues, and user-reported problems, implementing practical and maintainable solutions.
  • Operate within Git-based development environments, supporting development, staging, testing, deployment, and release workflows.
  • Maintain comprehensive technical documentation for configurations, integrations, deployment steps, recurring maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Web Team Leadership & Project Delivery

  • Lead the daily workflow of a small web development team, including full stack, Drupal, and accessibility specialists.
  • Assign and prioritize tasks based on project needs, deadlines, approved hours, team capacity, and client commitments, establishing clear ownership and due dates.
  • Monitor project status, proactively identify roadblocks, facilitate problem-solving, and escalate decisions or resource needs as required.
  • Coach team members, foster accountability, support knowledge transfer, and ensure consistent development practices.
  • Collaborate with project managers to create realistic estimates, confirm scope and schedules, and assess the impact of requested changes before proceeding with out-of-scope work.
  • Maintain precise project information in Monday.com or similar project management systems, including assignments, milestones, dependencies, review dates, and approvals.
  • Monitor project hours and team timekeeping, identify potential overruns or rework early, and ensure alignment with approved budgets and schedules.

Accessibility, Drupal & Quality Control

  • Coordinate Drupal development and maintenance activities with the Drupal developer, covering content structures, migrations, module updates, testing, and releases.
  • Manage accessibility audits, remediation efforts, retesting, and documentation to meet client requirements and WCAG standards.
  • Conduct or supervise code reviews, functional testing, cross-browser/device testing, accessibility checks, and pre-launch quality control.
  • Ensure all identified defects are resolved or documented prior to release, and help maintain consistent launch and handoff procedures.
  • Provide client training and guidance on accessible content, and maintain organized records for hosting, repositories, credentials, site ownership, and maintenance.

What We’re Looking For

  • Over 5 years of professional full stack web development experience, with a continued interest in hands-on development and troubleshooting.
  • Proven experience leading or coordinating developers, managing competing priorities, and ensuring project adherence to schedules and commitments.
  • Robust front-end development skills, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, responsive design, usability, and accessibility best practices.
  • Expertise in back-end development, databases, REST APIs, authentication, third-party integrations, and web application architecture.
  • Working knowledge of technologies such as PHP, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, Python, .NET, Laravel, React, Vue, Angular, or similar frameworks. (Expertise in all listed technologies is not required).
  • Experience with relational databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server.
  • Proficient understanding of Drupal for coordinating development, maintenance, testing, and technical delivery with a Drupal developer.
  • Practical knowledge of WCAG and web accessibility testing/remediation, including collaboration with accessibility specialists.
  • Familiarity with Git, development/staging/production workflows, hosting environments, SSL, backups, cloud tools, and fundamental CI/CD concepts.
  • Understanding of secure coding practices, access control, credential handling, form security, data protection, and general web security.
  • Capability to estimate work, manage deadlines, monitor approved hours, document decisions, and clearly communicate technical issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, organizational, communication, documentation, and follow-through skills.

Helpful, But Not Required

  • Experience with public-sector or other highly visible public-facing websites.
  • Familiarity with Monday.com boards, automations, API integrations, or similar workflow platforms.
  • Knowledge of GIS or mapping integrations, CRM/marketing platforms, dashboards, portals, or automated deployment workflows.
  • Experience supporting accessibility-focused websites, remediation programs, or client accessibility training.

The Right Fit
