AWS Cloud/Linux Administrator

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced AWS Cloud/Linux Administrator to manage, maintain, and optimize critical infrastructure supporting web-based services. This role requires deep expertise in Linux administration, cloud environments (AWS), Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, and DevSecOps automation to ensure system integrity, security, and scalability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install new software releases, system upgrades, and operating system upgrades; evaluate and install patches; and resolve software-related problems.
  • Perform system backups and recovery procedures.
  • Create an AMI (Amazon Machine Image) following OS patching cycles.
  • Maintain data files and monitor system configuration to ensure data integrity and security.
  • Install, set up, configure, troubleshoot, and administer new and existing Apache, PHP, Redis, Ansible, Tomcat, and Oracle Application servers that deliver Web-based services.
  • Install, set up, configure, troubleshoot, and administer system support applications, including but not limited to: McAfee, BigFix Client, FireEye Client, Nessus Tenable, Arcsight Log Archiver, IBM Direct Connect, and Dell tools.

Required Qualifications

  • Five or more years of Linux/Unix/Redhat Administration Experience (RHEL 7 preferred).
  • One or more years of AWS Cloud Experience required.
  • Proven experience with Infrastructure As Code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, and DevSecOps automation utilizing tools such as Ansible, Jenkins, CloudFormation, and Puppet.
  • Experience in automation and developing CI/CD pipelines specifically for Automated Server Patching.
  • Experience applying patches, debugging complex issues, and building custom kernels as necessary to implement functionality and address security concerns.
  • Proficiency in shell scripting using languages such as Python, Perl, Korn, Burne/Bash.
  • Solid understanding of the software development process, including requirements, use cases, design, coding, documentation, and testing of scalable, distributed applications in a Linux environment.
  • Experience with SE Linux System administration, including configuration and policy management.
  • Familiarity with Network file systems (e.g., Lustre, NFS) and Ethernet Networking concepts.
  • Experience debugging issues within the Linux kernel, including examining source code and using advanced tools such as crash and systemtap.
  • Experience with RDMA Communications, Infiniband or Omni-Path high speed fabrics, including subnet management, IPoIB and/or IPoOPA mechanisms, fabric topology and health monitoring, and integration with MPI.
  • Familiarity with automating approaches to configuring and maintaining (e.g., patching) systems in a cloud environment.
  • Familiarity with High Performance Computing (HPC) environment and related technologies.
  • Key technical skills include: Network security groups, Active Directory (AD) integration, Load Balancer configurations, AWS Direct Connect, and Backup/Archival experience, in addition to basic compute and storage experience (EC2, EBS, S3) with automatic scripting using Ansible or Cloud Formation.
  • Excellent communication, people skills, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to balance and prioritize work effectively.
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
