Position Overview: Technical Services Manager (IBM i Focus)
Consultech is seeking an experienced Technical Services Manager to drive long-term growth while ensuring the delivery of exceptional application development and support services to our customers. This remote role is ideal for a hands-on technical leader with deep IBM i expertise, strong customer-facing abilities, and a commitment to team member growth and advancing modern solutions.
The Technical Services Manager holds a critical leadership position spanning customer delivery, technical strategy, and operational execution. While IBM i is the primary platform focus, this role also supports and guides work across additional platforms. Active participation in the IBM i community, including attendance at educational events, conferences, and user groups, is valued. Volunteer involvement and thought leadership within the community are a strong plus.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Delivery
- Provide technical leadership for application development and support engagements.
- Act as a hands-on leader, collaborating directly with customers and the internal team to design and deliver effective solutions.
- Serve as technical lead, programming manager, project manager, or advisor, depending on project needs.
- Ensure solutions align with customer business objectives, technical best practices, and Consultech’s high standards.
- Assist with customer partnership and relations.
- Collaborate with the team on strategy and technology discussions and decisions.
- Oversee project and operational management.
Required Experience
Business & Leadership Experience
- 10+ years of professional experience in technology or consulting environments.
- Experience working across multiple industries is strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage customer relationships.
Technical Experience
- Minimum 10 years of IBM i experience (required).
- Experience with application development, support, and modernization on IBM i.
- Exposure to other platforms and technologies preferred.
Consulting Experience
- Experience working as a consultant for an organization that provides IBM i services, managing multiple customers and team members.
Technical Skills (Representative)
IBM i & Enterprise Systems
- Preferred strong experience supporting and integrating ERP systems (e.g., JD Edwards (World/Enterprise One), MAPICS/XA, BPCS/LN, Lawson, Aurora/System 21, D365 (Microsoft Dynamics/AX), SAP, etc.).
- Experience with EDI solutions and integrations.
- Preferred Infor Autorelese experience.
Programming & Development
- Preferred skills include RPG (RPG II, RPG III, RPGIV, RPGLE, Free-form, SQLRPGLE), CL, COBOL, PHP, Python, Node.js, HTML, .Net, C++, SQL, DDS, DB2 for I.
- Experience with Web and open-source technologies (Java, JavaScript, PHP, Python, Node.js, HTML/CSS), API development, and integration.
Tools & Technologies
- Preferred IBM i development and administration tools (RDi, VS code, SEU, Query, ACS, BRMS, Navigator).
- Experience with Modernization tools and approaches, Open-source, APIs, data integration, and reporting solutions.
Additional Skills
- Preferred experience with AI and automation, Data analytics and reporting.
- Understanding of networking, security, and integrations (FTP, SSL, TCP/IP, SMTP, ODBC).
- Experience using AI to document, code, and support programming and application development.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, Word, Project, Visio.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, or a related discipline.
