About This Opportunity

This 16-month internship focuses on hardware-software automation solutions and complex problem solving in a fast-paced environment. You will be directly involved with leading-edge products and gain experience across all areas of automation development, working within a highly experienced group of automation and process engineers. You should be familiar with most electronic technologies and products across consumer, enterprise, communications, industrial, healthcare, and aerospace markets. A strong programming background is highly beneficial.

Internship Activities and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal customer-focused teams to identify where hardware and/or IoT automation projects can improve efficiencies.
  • Gather data on requirements and savings to justify appropriate ROI for automation projects.
  • Work with internal and external solution providers to implement projects in a timely manner.
  • Support the development of automation solutions (hardware and software) to improve operational efficiencies.
  • Support the development of production automation tools, including robotics, vision systems, and software controls.
  • Review and provide input on potential automation projects/designs alongside an experienced engineering team.
  • Implement software & hardware solutions, including procurement, integration, qualification, and installation support for manufacturing test across multiple global sites.
  • Integrate tools and code developed by other internal groups or external customers.
  • Debug solutions using design of experiments, tools, and failure analysis methodologies.
  • Support the development and updating of development work instructions.
  • Work with suppliers and customers during project execution.
  • Improve quality and efficiency within the development process through process optimization.
  • Work on problems of moderate scope requiring considerable judgment and analysis.
  • Build internal and external relationships that facilitate the achievement of job accountabilities.

Critical Requirements and Preferred Skills

Mandatory Enrollment Criteria

  • Currently enrolled in a formal University Internship/Co-Op Program (16 months).
  • Completing the 3rd year of a 4-year Engineering program.
  • Ideal candidates are enrolled in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics / Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science Programs.
  • Must submit a cover letter, resume, and transcript for consideration.

Preferred Technical & Soft Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent time management and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively autonomously once trained.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, report writing, and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours as per customer needs.
  • Software code design and development experience.
  • Hardware assembly skills (Hand tools, Power tools, Soldering, etc.).
  • Engineering project development and support experience.
  • Good presentation, database management, and computer skills.
