Staff Site Reliability Engineer (Remote, Canada) at Supermetrics
Join Supermetrics, a leader in data integration technology, as a Staff Site Reliability Engineer within our Cloud Infrastructure team. We are a global company with a diverse, growth-minded team of over 400 people, fostering a multicultural, resourceful, and collaborative environment.
This is a fully remote role based in Canada. As part of your onboarding, you will spend 2-3 weeks at our HQ in Helsinki, Finland (travel expenses covered).
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced SRE with deep knowledge of Kubernetes, observability practices, and database operations on Kubernetes. You will play a crucial role in developing, supporting, and maintaining the tools, processes, and infrastructure essential for our SaaS platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Write, release, and support reusable Infrastructure as Code (IaC) modules.
- Review IaC Pull Requests (PRs).
- Write and maintain tooling (e.g., using Golang) to facilitate platform utilization.
- Develop and maintain Helm charts for internal and third-party software deployments.
- Respond to incidents in our production environment.
- Support the pre-sales team by answering technical questions from potential customers.
- Review architecture changes, including new database implementations.
- Improve deployment processes using GitOps and GitHub Actions.
- Fix technical issues as they arise.
- Participate in on-call rotations.
What We’re Looking For
- Practical knowledge of Kubernetes (CRDs, operators, CNIs, CSIs, network policies, etc.).
- Deep knowledge of observability practices (PromQL, SLIs, SLOs, OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Time Series Databases, Elastic/OpenSearch).
- Background in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) with experience as both a cluster user and operator.
- Demonstrable experience configuring, deploying, and operating databases on Kubernetes (e.g., CloudNativePG, Percona, Dragonfly, Kubeblocks operators), including backups, performance tuning, upgrades, and migrations.
- Experience as a Software Engineer developing tools and services for a Platform Engineering team (APIs, services, CLIs).
- In-depth understanding of containers and experience operating Kubernetes clusters at scale.
- Experience operating databases in production.
- Proficient in database concepts (relational and NoSQL).
- In-depth knowledge of Linux systems.
- In-depth experience with AWS and GCP APIs and Terraform providers.
- Solid understanding of modern observability practices and tools.
- Automation mindset with experience in Python or Bash.
- Collaborative approach and strong communication skills (especially written).
- Skilled problem-solving abilities.
- Developer background with ability to write CLIs and tools in Go, Python, or Rust.
- Security mindset with experience implementing security best practices.
- Experience creating, releasing, and supporting Helm charts.
- Expert knowledge of CI/CD systems and processes (e.g., GitHub Actions).
