The Forward Deployed Engineering Team – Delivery
Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) serve as a crucial link between customers, cloud platforms, and DoiT Cloud Intelligence™. In their Delivery capacity, FDEs act as embedded technical partners for existing customers, focusing on:
- Establishing DoiT Cloud Intelligence as a trusted and indispensable tool in daily cloud operations.
- Eliminating technical barriers to adoption across critical areas like cost, reliability, security, and performance.
- Transforming one-off solutions into scalable, reusable patterns ("Gravel Roads") that enhance both customer outcomes and product functionality.
FDEs operate within integrated account teams or as pulled FDEs, working closely with Customer Success Managers (CSMs), Account Managers (AMs), Technical Account Managers (TAMs), other FDEs, and Product Support Specialists (PSS) to deliver impactful results across various customer segments and tiers.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a leader to hire, onboard, and manage a team of Senior Cloud Architects. These architects will specialize in Kubernetes and container orchestration, data and analytics, machine learning, and cost optimization, empowering them to achieve their full potential. You will enable your team to guide customers on configuring and deploying products and services on Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google Cloud, and serve as an escalation point for providing technical support on innovative and complex cloud topics.
Key Responsibilities
Customer-Facing Delivery
- Build, lead, and manage a high-performing team of Cloud Architects/FDEs dedicated to helping customers design, deploy, and optimize production-grade cloud workloads on AWS, Google Cloud, and/or Azure.
- Ensure your team functions as the primary technical delivery partner for customers, with a strong emphasis on CloudOps/FinOps, reliability, security, and performance.
- Act as an escalation point for intricate cloud topics, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, thoroughly explained resolutions.
- Drive your team to plan and execute structured engagements, including cost optimization workshops, architecture deep dives, security/reliability reviews, and product adoption sessions.
Proactive Engagement & Account Team Alignment
- Transition your team's approach from reactive to proactive by initiating signal-based outreach based on usage, health metrics, roadmap gaps, and known risks.
- Embed FDEs into account teams, ensuring their participation in defined account activities such as Technical Kick-Offs (TKOs), quarterly reviews, objective setting, and customer synchronization meetings.
- Coordinate with Technical Product Owners (TPOs), CSMs, AMs, TAMs, and other FDEs to deliver measurable impact across customer segments.
DCI Product Expertise & Adoption
- Coach your team to become experts in DoiT Cloud Intelligence (DCI) products, including Cloud Analytics, Insights, Cloud Composer, CloudFlow, DataHub, and Enterprise Platforms like PerfectScale and SELECT, utilizing these tools hands-on with customers.
- Drive your team to integrate DCI into customers' FinOps, observability, CI/CD, and governance workflows.
Paving "Gravel Roads" & Product Feedback
- Foster a builder culture, encouraging every FDE to transform one-off customer solutions into reusable patterns such as playbooks, Terraform modules, CloudFlow templates, Composer Recipes, and internal documentation, or to build products collaboratively with our R&D team.
- Ensure your team provides structured feedback to Product and Engineering regarding product gaps, friction points, and opportunities for automation and improvement.
- Support the FDE model by enabling FDEs to partner deeply with R&D and product stakeholders.
People Leadership & Career Development
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to team members, cultivating a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Mentor and coach FDEs, offering regular feedback and performance evaluations to drive career development and growth.
- Drive team engagement, establish clear role expectations, and align individual growth plans with the FDE career ladder.
- Lead the Objectives and Key Results (OKR) process for the team, including setting, tracking, and ensuring alignment with broader company objectives.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in architecting, developing, and troubleshooting internet-scale, production-grade distributed systems.
