About Pragmatic Institute

Pragmatic Institute delivers product, marketing, and data training to professionals and organizations globally. We empower teams to develop superior products and enhance market effectiveness through education, certifications, and practical resources.

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Marketing Web Developer to lead our marketing web platform as its technical owner. This role involves setting technical direction, making implementation decisions, and aligning website initiatives with business priorities.

Our WordPress Multisite platform leverages Elementor and integrates with HubSpot, ecommerce, analytics, and our course/certification systems. It supports campaigns, lead generation, enrollment, and content across the customer journey. Responsibilities include hands-on development, platform engineering, integrations, measurement, and production support. This position combines front-end design, back-end development, marketing technology integrations, and website performance optimization to drive lead generation, brand awareness, and business growth.

This role demands strong judgment alongside execution. You will clarify business problems, assess impact and maintenance costs, and recommend optimal solutions. Comfortably challenge approaches, explain tradeoffs, and take ownership of delivered work.

Key Responsibilities

Business Outcomes and Web Roadmap

  • Translate marketing and business objectives into a prioritized web roadmap, balancing customer impact, conversion potential, revenue contribution, effort, risk, and long-term maintainability.
  • Define problems, hypotheses, and success metrics before commencing significant work. Recommend alternative approaches if a request is unlikely to yield intended results.
  • Utilize analytics, site behavior, customer needs, and stakeholder input to proactively identify opportunities and suggest improvements.
  • Review launch and experiment results, interpret data, and apply findings to guide subsequent decisions.

Full Stack WordPress Development

  • Develop and maintain production WordPress functionality using PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, MySQL, WordPress APIs, hooks, filters, REST APIs, scheduled tasks, and database queries.
  • Build and extend themes, plugins, templates, reusable components, custom post types, taxonomies, forms, landing pages, campaign experiences, and data-driven features.
  • Efficiently use Elementor and established tools, discerning when custom code or simpler methods offer better outcomes.
  • Translate business, UX, content, SEO, analytics, and marketing requirements into accessible, responsive, and maintainable solutions.

Platform Engineering and Integrations

  • Assume ownership of the reliability, security, maintainability, and technical direction for the WordPress Multisite platform.
  • Manage WordPress core, theme, plugin, and dependency updates through development, staging, QA, release, and post-release verification, utilizing version control and repeatable deployment practices.
  • Evaluate, build, and maintain integrations between WordPress, HubSpot, ecommerce, analytics, and related systems, considering data quality, customer experience, performance, risk, and maintenance costs.
  • Diagnose and resolve front-end, back-end, form, integration, tracking, and production issues using logs, browser tools, database inspection, and systematic debugging.
  • Establish standards for themes, plugins, scripts, page patterns, and custom code, actively reducing unnecessary dependencies and technical debt.

Performance Measurement and Platform Health

  • Monitor and enhance page speed, Core Web Vitals, mobile experience, caching, CDN behavior, technical accessibility, and technical SEO.
  • Manage the Google Tag Manager container and oversee the technical implementation and governance of website measurement.
  • Implement and maintain Google Analytics 4 events, ecommerce and form conversion tracking, behavioral analytics, and the supporting data layer.
  • Collaborate with marketing and analytics stakeholders to resolve tracking, attribution, consent, and data-quality issues, ensuring trustworthy reporting.
  • Monitor platform health, proactively identify risks, and respond swiftly to incidents and performance regressions.

Delivery and Cross Functional Partnership

  • Deliver web development for campaigns, promotions, webinars, lead-generation assets, events, course pages, ecommerce, and ongoing site enhancements.
  • Partner closely with UI/UX, content/SEO, performance media, lifecycle marketing, marketing operations, analytics, and other business teams.
  • Conduct technical QA across browsers and devices, coordinate stakeholder reviews, deploy approved changes, and verify production releases.
  • Document architecture, integrations, recurring processes, releases, dependencies, and troubleshooting procedures to ensure platform supportability.

How Success Will Be Measured

Specific targets will be established based on current baselines and business priorities. Performance will be evaluated across these key areas:

  • Business Impact: High-priority web work demonstrates clear success measures and contributes to improved conversion, lead generation, enrollment, ecommerce, or campaign performance.
  • Customer Experience and Speed: Priority user journeys are fast, usable, accessible, and reliable across devices, with measurable improvements in Core Web Vitals and related experience indicators.
  • Measurement Quality: Website events and conversions are consistently implemented, validated post-release, and trusted by relevant teams.
  • Delivery Quality: Important work ships predictably, releases are verified, and production defects are minimal and quickly resolved.
  • Platform Health: Security and dependency maintenance remain current, technical debt decreases, and the platform becomes easier to modify and support.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional web development experience, including significant hands-on WordPress development in a production environment.
  • Experience as the primary or senior developer for a production marketing or ecommerce site, including technical decision-making ownership.
  • Proficiency in PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and MySQL, with a strong grasp of WordPress architecture, APIs, and coding standards.
  • Proven ability to build or extend WordPress themes, plugins, integrations, and custom application functionality beyond administrative configuration.
  • Strong debugging skills across browser, application, server, database, API, and integration layers.
  • Hands-on expertise in web performance, responsive development, accessibility, security, technical SEO, source control, testing, and release practices.
  • Experience managing Google Tag Manager and implementing analytics, conversion, ecommerce, or cross-system tracking with Google Analytics 4.
  • Demonstrated ability to use business context and evidence to challenge requests, recommend superior approaches, and measure outcomes.
  • Capability to manage competing priorities, clarify ambiguous requirements, communicate tradeoffs, and work autonomously while keeping stakeholders informed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Elementor, JetEngine, or similar page-building and dynamic-content tools.
  • Familiarity with WP Engine, caching layers, CDN configuration, and performance-monitoring tools.
  • Experience with HubSpot forms, marketing automation, ecommerce, and consent-management tools.
  • Background in marketing, growth, digital experience, demand-generation, training, or education businesses.
  • Experience improving a platform with existing technical debt without disrupting critical business operations.
