Senior DevOps Engineer (Full-Stack Laravel + AWS Infrastructure)

We're seeking an experienced individual contributor who can seamlessly move between writing production Laravel code and provisioning AWS infrastructure with Terraform—someone who embodies true DevOps by mastering both development and operations at a senior level.

What You'll Do:

• Full-Stack Development: Design and implement robust server-side logic using PHP and Laravel. Write high-quality, maintainable front-end code using JavaScript, React, semantic HTML, and CSS. Translate design wireframes into responsive web applications.
• Infrastructure Architecture & Operations: Design, implement, and maintain production infrastructure on AWS. Troubleshoot complex issues spanning from application code through container orchestration to AWS services. Propose and implement architectural patterns that solve real business problems.
• Database Engineering: Architect and manage MySQL database schemas, ensuring data integrity, security, and performance. Optimize queries and troubleshoot performance issues at both the application and database layers.
• Infrastructure as Code: Build and manage all infrastructure using Terraform. Establish reusable modules and patterns that the team can leverage for self-service provisioning.
• CI/CD & Automation: Design and optimize deployment pipelines that enable rapid, safe releases. Implement automation that reduces manual operations and shifts responsibility left to the development team.
• Platform Engineering: Build self-service tooling, documentation, and processes that enable other engineers to provision, deploy, and operate their services independently.
• Container Platform Management: Manage and optimize our ECS-based container platform. Debug containerization issues and implement best practices for deployment and scaling.
• Mentorship & Technical Leadership: Coach engineers on modern development practices, AWS services, IaC, CI/CD, observability, and operational excellence. Evangelize DevOps culture and shift-left mentality across the organization.
• Security & Compliance: Implement security controls in both application code and infrastructure that support SOC 2 Type 2 compliance. Follow NIST cybersecurity framework and CIS benchmark standards.

What We're Looking For:

Required Development Skills:

• 6+ years hands-on full-stack development with Laravel and its ecosystem
• Strong OOP principles: SOLID, DRY, design patterns (Strategy, Repository, Service patterns, Dependency Injection)
• Database expertise: MySQL schema design, query optimization, performance tuning
• Testing: Pest, PHPUnit, Playwright
• JavaScript, React, and jQuery
• RESTful API design and implementation
• Semantic HTML & CSS with accessibility awareness
• Git version control and branching strategies
• Security mindset: OWASP vulnerabilities, authentication/authorization best practices
• Asynchronous programming and working with web APIs

Required Infrastructure Skills:

• 6+ years in DevOps, infrastructure engineering, or similar roles
• Deep hands-on experience with AWS services (ECS, Lambda, RDS, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, S3, etc.)
• Production experience writing and managing infrastructure with Terraform
• Strong Linux/Unix systems administration
• Docker containerization and container orchestration
• CI/CD pipeline design and implementation
• Scripting proficiency (Bash, Python, or similar)
• Monitoring, logging, and observability platforms
• Experience troubleshooting and debugging production systems across the full stack

Highly Desired:

• NoSQL experience (DynamoDB)
• Experience in SOC 2 and/or GDPR compliant environments
• Track record of mentoring or leading other engineers
• Experience building internal developer platforms
• GitOps practices
• AWS secrets management (Secrets Manager, Parameter Store)
• WebSockets implementation
