Responsibilities

The Senior Data Engineer develops and deploys robust data pipelines, integrations, and transformations to support advanced analytics and machine learning applications. Working within an assigned product team, you will utilize various open-source programming languages and vended software to achieve desired product functionality.

Key duties include maintaining expertise in the organization's current solutions, coding languages, and tools. This role requires demonstrated experience in designing, building, and installing data systems and applying them within the Department of Data & Analytics technology framework. You will partner with product owners and Analytics and Machine Learning delivery teams to:

  • Identify and retrieve necessary data.
  • Conduct exploratory analysis.
  • Pipeline and transform data efficiently.
  • Help identify and visualize trends.
  • Build and validate analytical models.
  • Translate qualitative and quantitative assessments into actionable insights.

Qualifications

A commitment to customer service, strong analytical skills, excellent verbal and written communication, attention to detail, and a high capacity for learning and problem resolution are required. The incumbent must manage a varied workload with multiple priorities, stay current on healthcare trends, and demonstrate experience working on cross-functional teams.

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., engineering, mathematics, computer science, information technology, health science, or other analytical/quantitative field) and a minimum of five years of professional or research experience in data visualization, data engineering, or analytical modeling techniques; OR
  • An Associate’s degree in a relevant field and a minimum of seven years of professional or research experience in data visualization, data engineering, or analytical modeling techniques.

In-depth business or practice knowledge will also be considered.

Required Technical Skills

  • Advanced experience in SQL.
  • Strong experience in scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript, PHP, C++, or Java, and API integration.
  • Experience in hybrid data processing methods (batch and streaming) such as Apache Spark, Hive, Pig, or Kafka.
  • Experience with big data, statistics, and machine learning concepts.
  • Ability to navigate Linux and Windows operating systems.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Google Healthcare, FHIR and DICOM standards.
  • Experience with workflow scheduling tools (Apache Airflow, Google Composer).
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as code (Kubernetes, Docker) and CI/CD practices (Jenkins, Github Actions).
  • Experience in DataOps/DevOps and agile methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of visualization and data tools including Tableau, Power BI, SAS, ThoughtSpot, DASH, d3, React, Snowflake, SSIS, and Google Big Query.
  • Google Cloud Platform (GCP) certification.

Compensation Detail: $138,257 - $200,512 / year

Schedule Details: Full Time (80 hours/pay period), Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm, with 24x7 on call rotation.

Work Location: This position is eligible for remote work. Mayo Clinic also has major campuses in Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona; Jacksonville, Florida; and Rochester, Minnesota.
