About the Team and Your Mission
You will join the Health Profile team within the Patient Engagement area. Our vision is to provide patients with easy, universal access to their health data through an insights-driven experience, helping them live healthier, longer lives.
As a Backend Engineer, you will develop core products and work on distributed systems. The Health Profile team specifically manages the Care Circle, Health Profile Foundations, and Interoperability.
You will design and implement innovative features, including:
- Care Circle: Introducing family profiles on the Patients App.
- Health Profile: Creating a structured version of the Health Profile.
- Lab Results: Extracting and processing lab results data from Medical Files.
- Public Health Integrations- P1: Synchronizing Health Information from MyDr to the Health Profile.
This role is ideal if you are interested in both the business/product context and the technical implementation side.
Key Responsibilities
- Create new backend applications and maintain existing ones.
- Demonstrate a proactive mindset and strong collaborative skills within a team environment.
- Exhibit a strong sense of ownership across the entire software development lifecycle, including:
- Effective collaboration with Product Management to understand and refine requirements.
- Applying software design principles during implementation to ensure high-quality, highly scalable solutions.
- Managing and maintaining live production software at scale, ensuring reliability and performance.
- Focus on simplicity: Ship minimal, maintainable solutions that work effectively. Prioritize clear APIs, small PRs, clean architecture, and automation to reduce toil.
- Apply a deep understanding of software development foundations (e.g., good object-oriented programming practices, TDD, domain-driven design (DDD), event-driven architectures, architectural styles, and design patterns) over specific tools.
Qualifications
- Strong backend experience with flexibility across different stacks (PHP, JS, TS, .NET, Python, and cloud/infrastructure).
- Solid understanding of Object Oriented Programming principles.
- Familiarity with (and preferably experience using) tools such as GIT, ELK Stack, DataDog, RabbitMQ, Symfony Messenger, MariaDB, GitHub Actions, Docker, and Redis.
- Experience with Agile methodologies, particularly Extreme Programming (XP) practices, and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Continuously seek innovations and improvements while maintaining a business perspective.
- Curious nature with a passion for learning and teaching; actively contribute to knowledge sharing within the team.
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written, minimum B2 level).
- Openness to receiving and providing valuable feedback.
Bonus Points
- Strong backend experience specifically in PHP.
- Good knowledge of PHP (7.4/8.2) and Symfony (3.3/6.4).
