(Senior) Backend Engineer

At InterNations, you will contribute to building solutions for our members, event hosts, and internal colleagues. We seek engineers who are deeply involved in understanding feature requirements and shaping solutions.

Our engineering team focuses on architecting, developing, and testing products. As a Full-Stack Engineer, your mission will be to build features end-to-end, from the browser to the database, on a high-traffic platform serving millions of views monthly.

Joining an international, cross-functional Product Experience Team (PXT), you will collaborate closely with a Product Manager to architect, implement, and deploy new concepts and changes. This role involves writing automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, and participating in cross-team initiatives such as architectural changes, refactoring, and establishing best practices.

What we are looking for:

• Relevant experience across the stack, including a backend language like PHP, Python, or Ruby (with a focus on PHP and TypeScript).
• Experience with modern web frameworks such as Symfony, Laravel, Next.js, or React.
• Hands-on experience utilizing AI tools in daily engineering workflows.
• Proficiency in automated testing at the unit, functional, and/or acceptance levels.
• Interest in managing large datasets within relational databases, search indexes, or key-value stores.
• Excellent written and spoken English, as it is our company language.
• Strong communication skills and a self-motivated approach, accustomed to collaborating with multiple cross-disciplinary teams in a fully remote setting.

Where we work: We operate as a fully remote company and are seeking candidates based in Spain who possess the legal right to work there. The entire team meets in person twice a year, with travel and accommodation expenses covered.
