Department Summary

The Business Information Technology team partners with administrative stakeholders to design, develop, configure, enhance, optimize, and maintain products and platforms supporting UCLA’s core business functions (e.g., Budget & Financial Management, Student Information, Human Resource Information, Customer Relationship Management). The Workplace Products team specifically focuses on conceiving, configuring, testing, delivering, and refining application technologies, including mobile and web applications, collaboration tools, CRM products, and HR applications. This department ensures optimal user experience, addresses digital accessibility needs, and establishes high standards for quality assurance and release management.

Position Summary

The Software Developer, Workplace IT Products will focus on developing and configuring back-end services product solutions while strictly adhering to coding best practices and standards. This role is crucial for translating requirements into functional code that enhances usability, creates business value, and elevates the customer experience for a broad range of customers and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include conducting testing, troubleshooting, and debugging to ensure optimal performance. The developer will also research emerging technologies and industry practices for Workplace Products, making recommendations for adoption and contributing to continual improvement activities. This position advances the University's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services consistently across faculty, staff, and students.

Salary & Compensation

The anticipated pay range for this position is $78,500.00 - $125,000.00 annually; salary is dependent upon the skills and experience of the selected finalist. Actual salary offers consider factors including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common.

Qualifications

Required Experience and Skills

  • Three years experience working in computer science, computer information systems, software development, or a related field.
  • Experience with identification and use of code libraries and open-source forums.
  • Experience in the design and development of enterprise applications using technologies such as Node.js, Python, Java, .Net, JavaScript, or PHP.
  • Experience utilizing testing frameworks and tools.
  • Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure, GCP, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with databases such as Oracle, MSSQL, or similar relational systems.
  • Experience with planning for deployment and creation of feedback mechanisms.
  • Experience developing and executing complex test plans.
  • Knowledge and skill in secure software development, software repository skills, and software specification, design, modification, implementation, and deployment of large-scale scope.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to balance competing priorities and support concurrent projects in a project-based environment.
  • Strong demonstrated problem-solving skills, including the ability to scope solutions based on available resources and timelines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of communicating technical information to a diverse community of colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Ability to think creatively, propose innovative ideas, and work with agility in a fast-paced environment.

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree in information technology, computer science, public administration, business administration, communications, or a related field, or equivalent experience/training.
