Network Reliability Engineer (Fully Remote, U.S.)

Overview

GovCIO is seeking a Network Reliability Engineer to support a large Government Agency contract. This fully remote position involves supporting, maintaining, optimizing, monitoring, and troubleshooting a mature network environment within the United States.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate should have extensive experience with the SolarWinds suite, including Network Performance Monitor (NPM), Network Configuration Manager (NCM), NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA), and SolarWinds Security Event Manager (SEM). Substantial experience developing and maintaining interactive webpage dashboards related to SolarWinds is required.

Key duties include:

  • Perform Incident Response support by monitoring the ticket system and taking appropriate actions on network-related Incidents.
  • Manage, maintain, and support the existing SolarWinds instance for monitoring and alerting network equipment.
  • Manage, maintain, and support existing interactive webpage dashboards using programming and database calls to SolarWinds and other systems utilizing SWQL Studio.
  • Participate in troubleshooting sessions for infrastructure and application connectivity issues using SolarWinds, packet capture data, syslogs, and related log data analysis.
  • Utilize network diagnostic tools to quickly identify network anomalies, reduce outage times, and proactively optimize network performance.
  • Generate Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for diagnosed network issues.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for managed systems.
  • Ensure compliance with security standards, policies, and best practices for IT systems and data protection.
  • Train and mentor internal teams on utilizing SolarWinds for monitoring and diagnosing network anomalies.

Highly desirable skills include experience with CISCO switches and routers, CISCO specific monitoring systems, packet capture systems, packet broker switches, and automation provisioning. Additional valuable skills include experience with COTS DDI products, load balancers, NAC, AAA systems, SSL certificate management, and proxy systems.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with 5 - 8 years of commensurate experience is required.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience monitoring and managing network equipment.
  • Experience with Incident and Request ticketing systems.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with SolarWinds and related dashboard activities.
  • Strong knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, etc.).
  • Solid knowledge of SNMP as it relates to SolarWinds implementations.
  • Solid network and cybersecurity fundamentals knowledge.
  • Fundamental knowledge of MPLS and WAN routing principles.
  • Fundamental knowledge of IPv4 and IPv6 protocols.
  • Basic understanding of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 8/9) for administering Apache2 web server.
  • Basic understanding of Application Programming Interface (API) utilization to extract performance and informational data from various vendors.
  • Basic understanding of Bash shell scripting, Python, PHP, Perl, Java Script, and MySQL database.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Familiarity with cloud service providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Familiarity with Data Center network environments.
  • Strong ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as part of a team.

Clearance Required

Must be able to obtain and maintain a HUD Public Trust.

Compensation

Posted Salary Range: USD $90,000.00 - USD $120,000.00 per year.

Note: Base pay offered may vary depending on individualized factors including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity.
