Join our Managed Services department, where we ensure the smooth operation of customer MongoDB databases. As a critical partner, we provide 24/7 support from world-class DBAs to Percona customers globally. Our focus is on delivering high-quality service, managing incidents, resolving outages, executing complex projects, and offering proactive recommendations for environment improvements, all aimed at achieving customer satisfaction and measurable business results.

What You Will Do: MongoDB DBA Responsibilities

  • Manage and operate customer MongoDB deployments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database availability and performance issues.
  • Plan, schedule, and execute technical tasks to deliver timely solutions.
  • Implement proactive measures to enhance the stability, performance, and fault tolerance of customer environments.
  • Perform advanced performance tuning, including query optimization, indexing, and storage management.
  • Enforce security best practices (RBAC, encryption, auditing).
  • Conduct capacity planning to ensure appropriate server sizing for future growth.
  • Collaborate with backend, platform, infrastructure, and SRE teams on automation, monitoring software, and critical tools.

What You Have Done: Required Skills & Experience

Technical Skills:

  • 3+ years of experience with MongoDB technology, preferably in a customer-facing role, OR 5+ years in distributed software administration with strong MongoDB knowledge.
  • Required experience with MongoDB versions 3.0 through 8.
  • Strong understanding of backup and recovery strategies.
  • In-depth knowledge of MongoDB's storage engine, replication, sharding, indexing, and backup methodologies.
  • Experience managing MongoDB environments across on-premise and major cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • Familiarity with Percona tools (e.g., Percona Monitoring and Management, Percona Backup for MongoDB) is a plus.

Non-Technical Skills:

  • Ability to independently assess the impact of issues on customer environments.
  • Proficiency in executing approved change management and implementation plans.
  • Adherence to incident management and operational procedures.
  • Strong written communication skills in English.
  • Capability to produce clear, concise technical reports and documentation.
  • Effective interpersonal skills for internal and customer collaboration.
  • Aptitude for explaining complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Positive, helpful, and team-oriented attitude.
  • Eagerness for continuous learning and growth in database management systems.
  • Commitment to improving operational processes.

What Will Make You Stand Out: Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing and maintaining large-scale, multi-region MongoDB Sharded Clusters and Replica Sets.
  • Proficiency in Linux environments (RedHat and Debian distributions).
  • Highly desirable experience with MongoDB Atlas and Cloud Manager.
  • Proven expertise in cluster migration across datacenters, cloud, or hybrid setups with minimal downtime.
  • Required experience with at least one major programming language (e.g., PHP, Java, Node.js, Go, Python, Ruby) or client application programming with MongoDB.
  • Ability to optimize full-stack infrastructure, including Linux kernel/I/O tuning and Kubernetes-managed MongoDB deployments, for high availability and scalability.
  • Skill in developing and delivering technical presentations.
  • Proficiency with configuration management or automation tools like Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Vagrant, or Terraform.
  • Demonstrated ability to create scripts and automation playbooks using tools such as Bash, Python, and Ansible for database administration tasks.

Working Hours & On-Call Schedule

This role operates within a Follow the Sun support model, specifically covering the EMEA shift (6:30 AM – 12:30 PM UTC). Our global shifts include:

  • APAC shift: 12:30 AM – 6:30 AM UTC
  • EMEA shift: 6:30 AM – 12:30 PM UTC
  • US East shift: 12:30 PM – 6:30 PM UTC
  • US West shift: 6:30 PM – 12:30 AM UTC

Team members are assigned on-call duties every other weekend, covering 12 hours on Saturday and 12 hours on Sunday. Occasional travel for internal meetings may be required.
