This position is fully remote. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a distributed team and communicating effectively in a virtual environment.
Key Responsibilities
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Develop, maintain, and enhance our WordPress websites and internal applications.
- Manage WordPress core, theme, and plugin updates, ensuring security, stability, and compatibility.
- Design and implement bespoke features using PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and WordPress best practices.
- Develop, maintain, and extend custom WordPress themes and plugins.
- Optimise website performance, page speed, caching, and Core Web Vitals.
- Plan and carry out website migrations, deployments, and release activities.
- Design, build, optimise, and maintain MySQL databases.
- Configure and maintain web servers, hosting environments, and caching solutions.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues across websites, databases, and hosting infrastructure.
- Write clean, scalable, and maintainable code, following coding standards and best practices.
- Take technical ownership of selected websites, features, migrations, and maintenance tasks, including planning, implementation, deployment, post-launch QA, and ongoing documentation.
- Implement, maintain, and quality-check SEO-critical website elements such as redirects, canonicals, robots directives, XML sitemaps, schema markup, crawlability, internal linking, page speed, and tracking-related technical setups.
- Troubleshoot and improve production websites across WordPress, PHP, JavaScript, MySQL, hosting environments, Cloudflare, DNS, caching layers, Git workflows, staging environments, and structured deployment processes.
- Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to junior developers.
- Create and maintain clear technical documentation for systems, processes, and projects.
- Collaborate with developers, designers, SEO specialists, and marketing teams to deliver new features and business initiatives.
- Contribute to technical planning, sprint estimation, and solution design.
- Ensure all work is delivered to a high standard, on time, and in line with business requirements.
- Keep up to date with emerging technologies and recommend improvements to development processes and platforms.
Requirements
- Commercial experience in a web development role (typically 3–5 years).
- Strong experience with PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and WordPress development.
- Experience developing custom WordPress themes and plugins.
- Experience working with Linux-based hosting environments.
- Strong understanding of SQL and relational databases.
- Experience using Git and collaborative development workflows.
- Experience with website performance optimisation, debugging, and troubleshooting.
- Experience integrating third-party APIs and services.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
- Understanding of DNS, SSL certificates and Cloudflare.
- Experience deploying websites to production environments.
- Understanding of technical SEO principles including redirects, canonicals and crawlability.
- Good proficiency in spoken and written English is required, as English is the shared working language across our international teams.
Desirable
- Experience with Laravel or other PHP frameworks.
- Experience with React, Vue, or modern JavaScript frameworks.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
- Experience with Docker or containerised development environments.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
- Understanding of SEO, affiliate marketing, analytics, or tracking technologies.
- Experience participating in code reviews.
