Linux Systems Engineer (SaaS Infrastructure Focus)

We are seeking a skilled Linux Systems Engineer to design, install, configure, and maintain our Linux infrastructure, specifically supporting a range of SaaS applications. This role involves close collaboration with development and IT teams to ensure fast, reliable delivery of features, patching, and updates through robust automation.

Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities

The engineer will be responsible for monitoring and optimizing application and operating system performance, availability, and scalability across on-premise and cloud environments.

• Implementation and support of a Full Linux stack.
• Deployment and support of Kubernetes infrastructure, working closely with the DevSecOps Team for management.
• Designing, implementing, and maintaining automation using Ansible, Terraform, and PowerShell.
• Proficiency in programming languages required for scripting.
• Participating in the design, implementation, and integration of Cloud and hybrid cloud technologies, including Azure and Amazon based IaaS and PaaS offerings.
• Monitoring performance using tools such as Azure Monitor, Prometheus, and Grafana.
• Analyzing, diagnosing, and troubleshooting problems within Zywave systems, coordinating maintenance with internal teams and vendors.
• Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to applications, cloud infrastructure, and operating systems to maintain security, reliability, and uptime.
• Documenting processes, procedures, and troubleshooting techniques.
• Providing off-hours on-call rotation and support for product updates, equipment upgrades, and technical issues.

Required Experience and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Science plus at least 4 years of experience as a Systems Engineer or similar position, or equivalent combination of education and technical experience.
• At least 4 years of experience working with the Full Linux stack.
• 3+ years of Linux systems design/implementation experience or equivalent.
• Fundamental understanding and extensive history of Linux Systems administration at enterprise scale, with expertise in Ubuntu and RHEL systems.
• Deep understanding of programming languages for scripting.
• Deep understanding and experience working with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure and AWS.
• Solid understanding of Apache, Ansible, PHP, and Python application management.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
• Proven ability to understand and design how different system layers (Application, Container, network and infrastructure) work together and interact.

Preferred Skills and Additional Responsibilities

• Experience with Prometheus and Grafana is a plus.
• CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administration) Certification is a plus.
• Assist with Ansible Tower product solutions in the enterprise as they relate to the Linux infrastructure.
• Assist with cross-training of team members and stay abreast of industry knowledge.
• Share on-call responsibilities with the rest of the IT Engineering teams.
• Occasional domestic travel may be required (less than 5 percent of the time).
