As a Lead Developer at Tilladelse, you will serve as the primary technical subject matter expert (SME), guiding the technical architecture, custom code development, and long-term stability of web projects for our Senior Living clients. In this agency environment, you will manage complex custom integrations, transform custom Figma design systems into responsive websites, establish development best practices, and mentor junior developers. You will also collaborate with the Dev Manager on technical feasibility and project scope.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Serve as the agency’s technical SME for WordPress development, site architecture, and code quality.
- Lead architectural planning for new website builds, custom features, and system integrations.
- Provide accurate technical estimates for project scope, effort, and feasibility.
- Mentor, guide, and conduct code reviews for junior developers to foster technical growth and enforce team standards.
Custom Development & Maintenance
- Translate custom Figma designs and design systems into responsive WordPress themes and components.
- Build and maintain custom WordPress themes, plugins, and PHP components using Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles.
- Construct custom sites primarily using Bricks Builder combined with custom-coded solutions, while maintaining legacy codebases.
- Build and manage API integrations with external systems, including CRMs.
Compliance, Security & Infrastructure
- Build and audit sites for ADA / WCAG 2.2 compliance and accessibility best practices.
- Manage site hosting environments on WP Engine, local development workflows in Local, and version control using Git/GitHub.
- Oversee DNS management across multiple domains and configure transactional email systems via external SMTP providers (e.g., Mailgun).
- Continuously optimize sites for speed, SEO technical standards, cross-browser performance, and security.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience: 5+ years of WordPress development experience, with demonstrated lead or senior-level technical responsibilities. Agency experience preferred.
Core Languages: Mastery of PHP (including OOP and WordPress-specific APIs), JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS/SCSS.
Design & WordPress Ecosystem: Experience converting Figma designs into production-ready web builds; deep familiarity with Bricks Builder (preferred), custom block/template creation, page templating, and legacy theme architectures. Experience building and maintaining custom WordPress plugins.
Tools & Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with Git/GitHub, WP Engine, Local, DNS configuration, and SMTP setup.
Compliance Knowledge: Practical understanding of WCAG accessibility guidelines.
Soft Skills: Clear technical communication, patience in mentoring junior talent, strong analytical problem-solving skills, and time management.
Pay: $80,000.00 - $96,000.00 per year
