Position Summary
The Full Stack Developer III (Independent Contractor) role is ideal for a pragmatic problem-solver ready to experiment and find solutions for difficult challenges. This position requires comfort raising issues and risks early and collaborating effectively with others. This is a true Full Stack role, working on a 50/50 split of Front End and Back End tickets, with a focus on PHP and Python development.
Role & Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership and contribute significantly to project goals:
- Conduct thorough code reviews and provide mentorship on software development best practices.
- Proactively identify technical roadblocks, coordinate troubleshooting, and ensure proper follow up for post-incident analysis and process improvements.
- Contribute to projects using a mix of front-end and back-end code, dependent on specific project needs.
- Work towards departmental objectives, including improving the accuracy of technical project estimates, increasing critical test coverage, and enhancing overall code quality.
- As a project's technical lead, collaborate with non-Engineering teams to ensure stakeholders understand project goals, requirements, and realistic timelines.
Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years experience building a variety of web applications.
- Strong competency with the React framework on both greenfield and brownfield projects.
- Experience working with React, webpack, and other modern web development tool chains.
- Values decoupled, easily testable code and writes tests early in the development cycle.
- Strong understanding of common web exploits and knowledge on how to prevent them.
- Excellent debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Knows how to structure applications for long-term maintenance and ongoing flexibility.
- Very comfortable working with PostgreSQL.
- Experience writing and reading RESTful APIs.
- Experience using AI Tools such as Cursor AI or Amazon Q/Kiro.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
- Great communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to learn quickly.
Contract Information
This is a remote, 40 hour per week engagement offered under an Independent Contractor Agreement.
