Success requires balancing technical expertise with artistic and creative skills, ensuring excellence in form and function, performance (UX, SEO), and adherence to brand cohesion and house style.
Required Technical Skills
- Proficiency in CSS, HTML, PHP, Javascript, SCSS, NPM, and Gutenberg.
- Familiarity with supplemental elements including Yoast plugins, pixels, and UTM tracking.
- Experience utilizing Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager.
- Proven experience optimizing websites, design elements, and pages to meet Google Core Web Vitals and accessibility compliance standards.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications
- A portfolio showcasing current or previous work in web development, programming, and/or design.
- Deep understanding of User Experience (UX) across various user types, collaborating effectively with Marketing and Art leads to ensure a streamlined, engaging brand journey.
- Ability to maintain and influence SEO strategy, enhancing Whitaker House’s online discoverability and digital accuracy.
The singular responsibility of this contract freelancer is focused exclusively on WhitakerHouse.com and the publisher's interests, working directly with the Whitaker House Arts and Marketing teams.
Project Management & Deliverables
- Self-manage the completion of ticketing-style web requests efficiently.
- Track and manage larger web projects to ensure on-time delivery and launch of new web properties.
- Support marketing operations and other teams by creating landing pages, original design elements, and navigation solutions.
Commitment and Work Environment
We seek a self-motivated, team-driven freelancer able to commit an average of 10 hours per week consistently for the foreseeable future, with potential for increased hours based on project needs and contractor availability.
