DevSecOps Engineer
We are seeking a talented DevOps Engineer with 10+ years of experience to join our Digital team. You will be instrumental in implementing new technologies, modern best practices, creating innovative solutions, and operating a highly automated, enterprise-scale DevSecOps toolchain. This is a permanent, full-time, remote position based in Canada.
The ideal candidate possesses a multi-disciplinary background, a tinkering mentality, and a proven ability to plan, build, and manage environments. You will script and deploy components to enhance the tech stack, evaluate and integrate new technologies, and solve real-world business problems. You'll also research opportunities to expand the application of these technologies.
As a DevSecOps Engineer, you will collaborate with peers, apply problem-solving skills, and efficiently execute software engineering tasks. You will work with onshore and offshore Development and Test teams to deliver scalable automation solutions (CI/CD) enabling rapid Cloud, Web, and Mobile application development, testing, and deployment.
The Basics:
- Ability to provide leadership in a team environment to meet goals and deadlines.
- Responsible for day-to-day management of Infrastructure Engineering and administering build, release, and production management tools.
- Establish and promote DevOps guidelines, best practices, and standards, including branch-based development and patch/merging oriented workflows.
- Participate in the full lifecycle software development using Agile methodologies (Scrum, XP, Hybrid, CI/CD, TDD, etc.).
- Expertise in development paradigms such as Python, Bash, PowerShell, SQL, and object-oriented programming.
- Familiarity with multiple tools, with a strong opinion on defining and simplifying the standard DevSecOps toolkit.
- Strong problem-solving and analysis skills.
- Effective communicator, able to clearly articulate ideas.
- 'Self-starter' attitude and ability to work independently.
- Quick learner, demonstrated ability to acquire new technologies and scripting languages.
- Provide thought leadership in a fast-growing team regarding scaling, availability, release automation, and monitoring.
- Travel is expected to be approximately 25%.
High Score Qualifications:
- Six or more years of DevOps or SysAdmin experience working with Agile software engineering teams developing server-side components, client-side applications, and web applications leveraging emergent technologies.
- Mastery with private and public clouds, especially AWS EBS, Terraform, OpenStack.
- Mastery in deploying and maintaining Apache, Tomcat, NGinX, SQL databases, and monitoring systems.
- Mastery with configuration management and automation tools (Chef, Puppet, Jenkins, Ansible, Docker, Flosum, Copado, etc.).
- Hands-on knowledge of programming languages deployed in Linux and Windows environments (PHP, Perl, Bash, Python, Golang, C#, Java, C++, C, Node.js, etc.).
- Hands-on knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases (Oracle, MSSQL, MySQL, Cassandra, MongoDB, etc.).
- Hands-on knowledge of big data processing systems and infrastructure (Hadoop, Mesos, Spark, Scalding, Azkaban, Hive, etc.).
- Hands-on knowledge of APIs, Microservices, service-oriented architectures, and deployment.
- Hands-on knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service environment.
- Experience managing operations in heterogeneous environments spanning multiple systems, programming languages, and back-end data stores.
- Experience with metric and log aggregation using tools like ELK stack, Graphite, New Relic, DataDog.
- Practical knowledge of the Internet protocol stack and SSL, with strong troubleshooting skills for network issues (TCP/IP) using tools like tcpdump, wireshark, traceroute, mtr, ping.
- Hands-on knowledge of Security Principles, Frameworks, and Tools to harden, observe, and investigate build and deployment processes and environments.
- BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related subject/work experience.
