Job Description

Join the Platform Engineering team as a DevOps Engineer. Higher Logic operates at scale, supporting tens of millions of end users daily. This crucial role focuses on the continuous improvement of our high-scale SaaS infrastructure and driving DevOps excellence.

This is a full-time position where you will execute the infrastructure roadmap and promote DevOps best practices. You will work collaboratively and independently on complex, concurrent projects within a global, 24x7x365 multi-cloud environment, requiring high technical skill and precision.

Platform Engineering ensures service reliability in the production environment and enables Engineering through the development and administration of CI/CD pipelines. We bridge Engineering, Operations, and Support. As the company rapidly introduces new products and features, this role demands a flexible, forward-thinking approach to scalability and performance.

The DevOps Engineer will perform hands-on configuration and tuning of service resources while architecting and building independent microservices. Success requires robust learning capacity, optimism, focus, and close teamwork.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Building and supporting our cloud-based environment.
  • Manage and troubleshoot Linux-based systems in production and non-production environments.
  • Improve infrastructure automation, monitoring, and operational processes.
  • Assist with incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to infrastructure standards and best practices.
  • Participating in the application of software patches and security updates.
  • Communicate & collaborate extremely well with others.
  • Understand the value provided by incremental solution delivery, POCs, etc.
  • Think with an Agile mindset and are familiar with Kanban and Scrum.
  • Work with Developers and Support to continuously improve uptime of hosted service.
  • Share on-call responsibilities with team members.
  • Follow best cloud practices within engineering teams.
  • Appreciate the value of diversity of opinions, approaches, and backgrounds.

Qualifications:

  • Practical cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Solid Linux system administration experience (CLI usage, services, networking, troubleshooting).
  • Experience working with version control systems (Git).
  • Strong understanding of at least one major programming language (e.g., Python, Go, Java, PHP, or similar).
  • Expertise in Infrastructure-as-code and related tools such as: Terraform, Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Packer.
  • Experience with MySQL, nginx, HAProxy, PHP.
  • Familiarity with Autoscaling, ECS, Docker, Redis, Memcached, S3, CloudWatch, CI/CD, and containers at scale.
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
  • Managing and monitoring cloud infrastructure and systems.
  • Designing, building and maintaining backend management systems.
  • Designing and configuring continuous integration and deployment pipelines for on-premises and cloud applications.
  • Building and improving Infrastructure dashboards to promote visibility throughout the organization.
  • Significant commercial experience with our stack, or a Bachelor's degree or better in Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent.
