Description:

Spatial Front, Inc. (SFI), a two-time USAToday Top Workplaces awardee and Washington Top Workplaces honoree, is seeking a Dataflow Analyst to support a high-visibility federal program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support all the dataflow input and output requirements for the NWS Supercomputers that create the US Weather Models.
  • Design and implement data monitoring processes to detect missing/late data sets and document the procedures needed to recover the data.
  • Write detailed implementation instructions, test changes to both impacted and downstream applications, install application software into the production environment following all NCOs procedures and verify success according to the plan.
  • Provide 24x7 on call support as scheduled.
  • Verify observed and model-generated data for quality control, archival, and efficient retrieval
  • Support satellite ground station data acquisition systems (i.e. GWAS)
  • Monitor and ensure accurate dataflow to all operational systems and customers
  • Acquire new datasets for use in the Weather and Climate Operational Supercomputing System (WCOSS) system
  • Deliver customer service via phone and email to users of NCEP products
  • Provide support for data dissemination from application implementations/upgrades on WCOSS
  • Provide Tier 2 helpdesk/customer support concerning any data related issues
  • Provide operational support for NCEP’s data flow application DBNet.
  • Provide after hours on call support for operational systems
  • Serve as an expert on the Dataflow Team, responsible for analyzing, integrating, testing, and implementing changes to data flowing within the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) High- Performance Computing (HPC) system.
  • Support applications written in programming languages and tools such as Java, Python, C/C++, Perl, FORTRAN, SQL, PHP, JavaScript, and HTML, selecting appropriate programming language and utility routines or adaptations.
  • Work directly with customers, both internal and external, on all aspects of weather and observational data, including support for data format, data substance, downloading techniques, file transfer protocols, network download speeds, and Website application errors.
  • Lead IT projects from requirements gathering, designing, scheduling and implementing changes across highly critical operational systems.

Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor of Science, 4+ years of experience
  • Desired - BS Atmospheric Sciences, 6+ years of experience

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience with weather or satellite operations
  • Intermediate knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems
  • Willingness to perform rotational on-call 24x7 Support
  • Experience with Linux/Unix scripting, including shell scripting, Perl, and/or Python
  • Working knowledge of procedural computer languages, such as FORTRAN, C/C++, and Python
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to work independently on complex tasks.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Public Trust clearance (fingerprinting required)

Desired Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems
  • Experience with scientific data dissemination and observation systems, especially in the NOAA/NASA/DoD environment
  • Experience with numerical modeling principles
  • Experience supporting a 24x7 mission-critical system
  • Experience with change management tools such as Subversion, Bugzilla, Redmine, Git
  • Experience with monitoring tools, such as Big Brother, Xymon
  • ecFLOW workflow manager
  • AWS
  • Cloud Certifications

Additional Information

Clearance: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

Salary Range: $65,000 – $95,000 annually
