The Opportunity: AI & Automation Development
Join the founding team of PaceMate's new AI & Automation development group. This unique role focuses on leveraging AI to transform remote cardiac monitoring and building automated systems that ensure data quality at scale. As a Data Quality Automation Engineer, you will design and build intelligent validation systems for various projects, including microservices, large data migration systems, and BI projects, eliminating manual testing through automated validation frameworks.
What Makes This Role Different
- AI-First Approach: We build automated systems using AI to continuously validate, monitor, and improve data quality. You will leverage Claude CLI, agentic development frameworks, and modern AI tools throughout your workflow.
- Automation Over Manual Testing: Success is measured by the elimination of manual validation. We seek candidates who instinctively prioritize automation.
- Diverse Project Landscape: Work across data migration systems, microservices, BI projects (analytics/reporting validation), and AI/ML pipelines (training data quality/model outputs).
Key Responsibilities
Build Automated Validation Systems (70%)
- Design and implement scalable automated data validation frameworks.
- Develop AI-powered quality checks that learn from patterns and anomalies.
- Create programmatic tests to replace manual validation workflows.
- Build monitoring systems to detect data issues before they impact patients or operations.
- Write Python, PHP, and SQL scripts for automatic validation of complex data relationships.
Manual Validation & Root Cause Analysis (20%)
- Investigate complex data discrepancies flagged by automated systems.
- Perform targeted manual validation when developing new automation.
- Conduct root cause analysis and collaborate with engineering teams to resolve systemic issues.
- Validate data quality during critical migrations and system changes.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement (10%)
- Partner with developers, ML engineers, and product teams to define data requirements.
- Recommend enhancements to data pipelines and validation processes.
- Document data quality standards and automation patterns.
- Share knowledge regarding AI tools and automation approaches.
Required Skills & Experience
3-5 years in software development, QA automation, or data engineering roles focused on building automated testing or validation systems. We prioritize demonstrated ability with AI tools and an automation mindset over traditional QA experience.
Core Skills (Non-Negotiable)
- Curiosity Above All: Must investigate data anomalies, stay current with AI advancements, and seek to understand the cardiac monitoring domain.
- AI/Agentic Development Experience: Hands-on experience with Claude CLI, Cursor, or similar agentic development tools. Must have used AI (including agents and instruction files) to enhance development workflow, not just as a chatbot. Understanding of prompt engineering and effective LLM leverage is required.
- Solution-Oriented Mindset: Resourceful, able to prototype solutions, iterate, and work independently through ambiguity.
- Data-Driven Thinking: Deep understanding of data structures, relationships, and dependencies. Strong SQL skills and ability to write complex queries for data integrity validation. Experience analyzing data flows across systems.
- Programming & Automation Skills: Strong proficiency in Python and PHP (primary automation languages). Comfortable with SQL (PostgreSQL and MySQL specifically). Experience writing scripts and tools. Familiarity with JavaScript and Puppeteer for web application testing is a plus.
Technical Environment
- Languages & Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, Python, PHP, JavaScript, SQL for complex data validation queries.
- AI/ML Tools: Claude CLI and agentic development frameworks (required). Experience with AI-powered code generation and testing tools. Familiarity with prompt engineering.
Bonus Experience (Preferred, Not Required)
- Databricks, Snowflake
- Data quality frameworks (Great Expectations, dbt tests)
- Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR)
- Experience with medical device data
Remote Work Success Requirements
Since PaceMate is 100% remote, candidates must:
- Communicate proactively and clearly in writing.
- Self-manage and maintain productivity without direct oversight.
- Collaborate effectively across time zones.
- Build relationships and contribute to culture remotely.
- Maintain a separate office/room within the home for suitable work conditions and privacy, along with a high-speed internet connection.
