Quick Summary

Fully remote Infrastructure Specialist sought to lead the design, evolution, and reliability of a high-volume ERP system's core database infrastructure on AWS. The role demands mastery of MySQL/MariaDB (including internal architecture, replication, and complex performance tuning) and advanced AWS skills. Responsibilities include designing resilient, distributed architectures with high availability and Disaster Recovery, implementing robust infrastructure automation using Bash and Python/Go, leading architectural reviews, and managing cloud costs (FinOps). Candidates must champion advanced Observability strategies and ensure data security by design. Experience with TiDB, Terraform, and SRE practices is a plus.

We simplify operations for thousands of entrepreneurs by providing an ERP system for micro and small businesses, offering integrated, simple, and practical operational and financial management tools.

This role involves designing, evolving, and ensuring the reliability of our core database infrastructure, which supports millions of daily operations. We seek a technical leader who will collaborate on architectural decisions and champion a culture of excellence, automation, and security. This is an opportunity for an expert in database environments, cloud technology, software engineering, and security who operates with platform ownership mentality.

This is a fully remote opportunity, operating under the CLT regime with a 40-hour weekly schedule. Join us in helping businesses manage their operations intelligently through technology!

Responsibilities and Attributions

  • Design and evolve distributed, resilient, and scalable database architectures on AWS, prioritizing high availability and Disaster Recovery (DR).
  • Lead architectural reviews (Design Reviews) with Product and Engineering teams to ensure data design supports aggressive business growth.
  • Partner with FinOps to manage the cloud budget, implementing tagging strategies and continuous cost optimization (Rightsizing, Savings Plans, serverless architecture where applicable).
  • Administer and perform deep performance tuning of MySQL/MariaDB engines and TiDB clusters, ensuring optimal performance under high concurrency.
  • Develop robust infrastructure automations using Python, Go, or Bash for provisioning, maintenance, and self-healing (IaC).
  • Implement and maintain an advanced Observability strategy, including distributed tracing and structured logs for rapid anomaly detection, moving beyond basic monitoring.
  • Mentor analysts and engineers, elevating the team's technical standards in modern database and cloud practices.
  • Ensure data security by design, implementing hardening, encryption (in transit and at rest), access management (IAM with least privilege), and network policy compliance.
  • Lead critical incident response (War Rooms) and conduct Post-Mortems focused on recurrence prevention.

Requirements and Qualifications

Technical Requirements

Database Core & Distributed Systems

  • MySQL/MariaDB Mastery: Deep knowledge of internal architecture (InnoDB), replication (GTID, Galera, Async/Semi-sync), partitioning, manual sharding, and complex performance troubleshooting. Practical experience in cluster administration and tuning.
  • Data Migration: Experience with Change Data Capture (CDC) tools or migrating monolithic systems to distributed architectures.
  • Observability: Ability to diagnose issues by interpreting wait events, slow logs, and distributed tracing, not just CPU/RAM metrics.

Cloud & Infrastructure (AWS)

  • Advanced AWS: Hands-on experience with EC2 (instance families, EBS IOPS, Nitro), VPC (Peering, Transit Gateway, PrivateLink), S3, and advanced IAM in both managed and unmanaged environments.
  • Security (SecOps): Solid knowledge of database hardening, encryption (KMS, TLS/SSL), secrets management (Secrets Manager/Vault), and compliance (Security Hub).

Engineering & Automation

  • Infrastructure Automation: Fluency in Bash and at least one robust scripting language (Python or Go) for creating automations, internal CLI tools, and maintenance scripts.
  • FinOps & Costs: Proven experience in cloud cost management (Rightsizing, using Spot/Graviton instances, and tagging strategy for cost allocation).

Preferred Qualifications (Differential)

  • Experience with TiDB (or similar NewSQL): Practical experience administering, operating, and tuning TiDB clusters (PD, TiKV, TiDB), including distributed storage and Raft consensus algorithm concepts.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Experience with Terraform or similar tools for database provisioning.
  • Kubernetes: Ability to operate databases within Kubernetes (e.g., using TiDB Operator).
  • Development Background: Capability to read and debug application code (PHP, Node.js, or Go) to assist developers in refactoring inefficient queries.
  • SRE Mindset: Experience defining SLIs/SLOs/SLA, managing Error Budgets, and utilizing modern monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana).
