You will be responsible for designing, evolving, and ensuring the reliability of the database infrastructure that supports millions of operations per day. We expect you to act as a technical reference for the team, collaborate on architectural decisions, and promote a culture of excellence, automation, and security.

Responsibilities:

• Design and evolve distributed, resilient, and scalable database architectures on AWS, focusing on high availability and disaster recovery (DR);
• Administer and perform deep tuning of MySQL/MariaDB engines and TiDB clusters, ensuring performance in high-concurrency scenarios;
• Lead architectural reviews (Design Reviews) with Product and Engineering teams, ensuring that data design supports business growth;
• Develop robust automations using Python, Go, or Bash for provisioning, maintenance, and self-healing of infrastructure (IaC);
• Implement and maintain an advanced Observability strategy, going beyond basic monitoring to include distributed tracing and structured logs for rapid anomaly detection;
• Mentor analysts and engineers, raising the technical bar of the team in modern database and cloud practices;
• Ensure data security "by design", implementing hardening, encryption (in transit and at rest), access management (IAM with principle of least privilege), and compliance with network policies;
• Lead response to critical incidents (War Rooms), conducting Post-Mortems focused on preventing recurrence.

Technical Requirements:

Database Core & Distributed Systems:

• Mastery of MySQL/MariaDB: Deep knowledge of internal architecture (InnoDB), replication (GTID, Galera, Async/Semi-sync), partitioning, manual sharding, and complex performance troubleshooting. Practical experience in the administration, operation, and tuning of clusters;
• Data Migration: Experience with CDC (Change Data Capture) tools or migrating monoliths to distributed architectures;
• Observability: Ability to diagnose problems not just by looking at CPU/RAM, but by interpreting wait events, slow logs, and distributed tracing.

Cloud & Infrastructure (AWS):

• Advanced AWS: Hands-on experience with EC2 (instance families, EBS IOPS, Nitro), VPC (Peering, Transit Gateway, PrivateLink), S3, and advanced IAM in both managed and unmanaged environments;
• Security (SecOps): Solid knowledge in database hardening, encryption (KMS, TLS/SSL), secrets management (Secrets Manager/Vault), and compliance (Security Hub).

Engineering & Automation:

• Infrastructure Automation: Fluency in Bash and at least one robust scripting language (Python or Go) to create automations, internal CLI tools, and maintenance scripts;
• FinOps & Costs: Proven experience in cloud cost management (Rightsizing, use of Spot/Graviton instances, and tagging strategy for cost allocation).

Nice to have:

• Experience with TiDB (or similar NewSQL): Practical experience in the administration, operation, and tuning of TiDB clusters (PD, TiKV, TiDB), understanding distributed storage concepts and consensus algorithm (Raft);
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Experience with Terraform or similar for database provisioning;
• Kubernetes: Knowing how to operate databases inside Kubernetes (use of TiDB Operator or similar) is a big plus;
• Development Background: Ability to read and debug application code (PHP, Node.js, or Go) to help developers refactor inefficient queries directly at the source;
• SRE Mindset: Experience with defining SLIs/SLOs/SLAs, Error Budgets, and using modern monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana);
• Good practices with FinOps, managing the cloud budget, implementing tagging strategies, and continuous cost optimization (Rightsizing, Savings Plans, serverless architecture when applicable).
