WordPress & WooCommerce Web Developer - Freelance (P.IVA) - On-site/Hybrid

A digital marketing agency specializing in multilingual e-commerce management for European markets is seeking an experienced WordPress & WooCommerce Web Developer for ongoing freelance collaboration (P.IVA).

You will serve as the technical lead for developing, optimizing, and maintaining complex multilingual WooCommerce websites on international e-commerce projects.

What You Will Do

• Develop and maintain intricate WordPress and WooCommerce e-commerce platforms.
• Manage multilingual architectures, including separate installations, hreflang implementation, and multi-currency configurations for European markets.
• Create custom themes from Figma designs and develop personalized plugins.
• Optimize website performance, focusing on Core Web Vitals.
• Integrate with European payment gateways, shipping carriers, ERP systems, and marketing automation platforms.
• Implement advanced tracking solutions (GA4, GTM, server-side tracking).
• Manage staging environments, deployments, and Git versioning.
• Provide technical support, debugging, and troubleshooting for live projects.

Essential Requirements

• Minimum 4-5 years of documented experience with WordPress and WooCommerce development.
• A strong portfolio of completed e-commerce projects, preferably multilingual.
• Advanced proficiency in PHP (OOP), MySQL, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3/SASS.
• In-depth knowledge of WordPress architecture: hooks, actions, filters, REST API, and WP-CLI.
• Solid WooCommerce experience, including checkout customization, complex product types (variables, bundles, subscriptions), European tax rules, and VAT/OSS management.
• Experience with WordPress multisite or managing multiple WordPress installations, hreflang, and multi-currency setups.
• Proficiency with professional page builders.
• Expertise in Git and versioning workflows (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket).
• Experience with hosting management, server configuration (Apache/Nginx), and LEMP/LAMP stacks.
• Proven ability in performance optimization, with familiarity using GTmetrix, PageSpeed Insights, and Query Monitor.
• Active P.IVA (freelance VAT number) or willingness to establish one.
• Fluent Italian and fluent technical English (written and oral).
• Strong ability to work autonomously, estimate project timelines, and meet deadlines.

Preferred Requirements

• Experience with React or Vue for custom Gutenberg blocks or headless WordPress.
• Familiarity with GDPR regulations and European cookie compliance.
• Basic knowledge of technical SEO (schema markup, Core Web Vitals).
• Experience with Docker, CI/CD, and automation tools (Make, Zapier, n8n).
• Experience with DNS management, multilingual domains, and multi-country configurations.

A Highly Valued Plus: Passion for AI

We are seeking a candidate who actively integrates AI tools into their development workflow (e.g., Claude, Claude Code) and has experience with LLM APIs and AI automations for e-commerce projects. This includes chatbots, multilingual content generation, personalization, and intelligent integrations.
