Quick Summary
Growmodo is a fully remote, subscription-based design and development agency that supports fast-growing startups and scale-ups globally. We empower businesses to scale through reliable, high-quality creative and technical execution, delivered by a global team committed to ownership, clarity, and continuous improvement. As we expand, we are seeking a detail-driven Development QA Specialist to uphold exceptional standards across all projects we deliver.
The Role
Working Hours: Mondays - Fridays, 8am-5pm Central European Time
We are looking for a detail-oriented and structured Development QA professional responsible for safeguarding the quality of all development deliverables before they reach production.
In this role, you will conduct systematic testing, validate compliance with design and technical standards, identify risks early, and ensure only stable, production-ready work is delivered across multiple projects and platforms.
About You
You possess a unique blend of technical literacy, structured testing discipline, and strong ownership. You have a deep understanding of how websites function (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and hands-on experience with platforms such as WordPress, WebFlow, or Shopify. You can confidently identify layout issues, responsiveness problems, CMS conflicts, and integration bugs across various browsers and devices.
You approach QA systematically, building repeatable checklists, writing clear and reproducible bug reports, and validating staging-to-production environments with precision. Proactive and detail-driven, you anticipate edge cases, communicate clearly with cross-functional teams, and ensure only stable, production-ready work progresses.
What You’ll Own (Key Responsibilities)
Quality Assurance & Testing
- Conduct daily QA reviews on development deliverables
- Test responsiveness, cross-browser compatibility, and device performance
- Identify bugs, regressions, and edge cases with clear and reproducible documentation
- Review code quality, structure, and maintainability in alignment with development standards
- Ensure all deliverables meet functional, technical, and performance expectations before deployment
Standards & Technical Compliance
- Maintain and continuously improve structured QA checklists across various development types (front-end, back-end, CMS, integrations, automations)
- Verify alignment with approved UI/UX designs and specifications
- Ensure compliance with platform standards (e.g., CMS best practices, framework constraints)
- Validate proper handling of errors, validations, loading states, and edge cases
- Support accessibility, security, and performance best practices
Process Improvement & Workflow Improvement
- Identify recurring technical issues, code quality gaps, and workflow inefficiencies
- Recommend improvements to reduce rework and recurring defects
- Contribute to documentation of QA standards, common issue patterns, and best practices
- Ensure feedback loops are closed and all required fixes are verified before final delivery
Reporting & Communication
- Track and report QA metrics such as bug frequency, severity, and rework rates
- Provide clear, actionable feedback to developers and project teams
- Communicate QA findings, risks, and corrective actions effectively
- Maintain accurate and organized QA documentation for reference and audits
Quality Advocacy
- Champion reliability, scalability, and clean execution across all projects
- Act as a quality gatekeeper to ensure only stable, production-ready work progresses
- Stay updated on development best practices, platform updates, and emerging testing methodologies
You Must Have:
- Strong understanding of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) sufficient to identify rendering issues, layout breaks, and interaction bugs across browsers and devices
- Hands-on experience with cross-browser and cross-device testing using tools like BrowserStack, LambdaTest, or similar platforms
- Working knowledge of responsive design principles and ability to validate layouts across breakpoints
- Experience with bug tracking and project management tools (Asana or ClickUp)
- Ability to write clear, reproducible bug reports with steps, expected vs. actual behavior, environment details, and supporting screenshots or screen recordings
- Ability to build and maintain structured QA checklists and test cases for repeatable use across multiple client projects
- Comfortable managing multiple concurrent projects with varying tech stacks, timelines, and client expectations
- Understanding of staging-to-production deployment validation and environment-specific testing protocols
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional coordination with developers, designers, project managers, and clients
- Proactive mindset — identifies potential issues during review rather than waiting for explicit test assignments
- Experience documenting QA processes, creating runbooks, or contributing to internal knowledge bases
Bonus Points If You:
- Have exposure to Shopify's Liquid templating language or WordPress PHP enough to trace bugs to source code
- Possess working knowledge of SEO validation — checking meta tags, structured data, canonical URLs, and sitemap integrity post-deployment
- Understand security testing fundamentals — form validation, input sanitization, SSL verification, and authentication flow testing
- Have a background in e-commerce QA — including checkout flows, payment gateway testing, inventory sync validation, and order lifecycle verification
This Role Is NOT For You If:
- "I just click around and see if things look right" — You lack a structured approach to testing and rely on ad hoc exploration without documentation, checklists, or systematic coverage. QA at scale requires repeatability, not intuition alone.
- "I don't write bug reports, I just tell the developer" — You are unwilling or unable to document defects properly. Verbal-only reporting creates information loss, accountability gaps, and repeated issues in a distributed team environment.
- "I've never worked with CMS platforms" — You have no exposure to WordPress, Shopify, or Webflow. The learning curve for platform-specific testing patterns (theme logic, plugin conflicts, app interactions) would be too steep for immediate contribution.
- "QA is just the last step before launch" — You view quality assurance as a gate rather than a continuous discipline. This mindset leads to late-stage bottlenecks, missed regressions, and a reactive rather than preventive quality culture.
- "I don't need to understand the code, I just test the UI" — You are resistant to developing even basic technical literacy. Effective QA in a development agency requires enough understanding to isolate whether issues are front-end, back-end, configuration, or environment-related.
- "I prefer working on one project at a time until it's done" — You cannot handle the multi-client, parallel workstream reality of a subscription agency. Context-switching and prioritization across simultaneous projects is a daily requirement.
- "I wait for instructions on what to test" — You have a purely reactive approach with no initiative to explore edge cases, review requirements proactively, or anticipate risk areas. The role demands ownership, not just task execution.
- "I've only done manual testing and have no interest in learning automation" — While the role may be primarily manual, a complete unwillingness to grow into automation signals a ceiling that limits long-term value to the team.
