Part-time remote web developer taking end-to-end technical ownership of MidCurrent's digital properties, focusing on WordPress development, sales funnel integrations (HubSpot, Memberful paywalls, Google Ad Manager), and basic business tech stack administration. Requires 5+ years of experience with custom WordPress themes and plugins, proficiency in PHP and JavaScript, hands-on experience with LLMs/AI coding tools, Git deployment workflows, managed WordPress hosting, GA4/GTM diagnostics, and Core Web Vitals optimization. Offered as a flat monthly retainer of $1,700–$2,500 USD for approximately 5–8 hours per week, with dependable weekly availability and same-day critical emergency response required.

About MidCurrent

MidCurrent is the leading independent fly-fishing media brand online, delivering daily editorial content to a dedicated audience of serious anglers. We also manage MidCurrent Travel, a specialized fly-fishing travel business, and MidCurrent Plus, a subscription membership service launched in early 2026 offering personalized newsletters, regional monthly guides, and exclusive gated content.

As a small, dynamic team, you will serve as our primary technology partner, with opportunities to expand your responsibilities as the business grows. We seek a strong team player capable of developing creative solutions to support our operational goals.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Web Developer to take full ownership of MidCurrent's web properties. Your work will primarily span three key areas:

Website Development (~55%)

  • Manage content updates, landing pages, and plugin/platform maintenance.
  • Address broken links and redirects, ensuring tracking and analytics integrity.
  • Administer DNS and hosting, providing rapid turnaround for routine tasks.
  • Lead the integration of AI tools into our website and content workflows.

Sales Funnel Technology Ownership (~35%)

  • Provide technical support for MidCurrent Travel's sales, primarily managed through HubSpot, including forms, lead capture, routing, tracking, and sales-feeding landing pages.
  • Develop and refine gated content flows, paywall states, member onboarding pages, and account management UX for MidCurrent Plus (powered by WordPress + Memberful).
  • Manage integrations connecting membership status to our email platform.
  • Support ad sales managed via Google Ad Manager, a core revenue stream.

Business Tech Stack Management (~10%)

  • Ensure smooth operation of daily team tools, including Google Workspace administration (accounts, permissions, shared drives).
  • Manage email setup and deliverability, payment systems, and other operational platforms.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for technical issues, maintaining access, security, and vendor accounts.

The exact distribution of responsibilities is negotiable and will evolve. We encourage candidates to highlight their strengths and areas where they might need support.

What You'll Own

  • midcurrent.com:WordPress on Flywheel, featuring a custom theme.
  • MidCurrent Plus membership:WordPress + Memberful, managing gated content, paywall templates, role mapping, and subscription state.
  • Ad delivery:Google Publisher Tags, critical for ad revenue.
  • Analytics and tracking:GA4, Google Tag Manager, and conversion tracking across all properties, requiring high reliability.
  • Infrastructure and access:Cloudflare DNS, GoDaddy registrar, AWS (S3, Lightsail), GitHub org, Google Workspace administration, DeployHQ.
  • HubSpot: Marketing Hub and Sales Hub Enterprise (~70k contacts), including website integration, forms, and lead routing. You will manage the technical aspects, not the strategy.

You will also be the trusted gatekeeper for credentials and access across all digital accounts.

Required Experience

  • 5+ years building and maintaining production WordPress sites, including custom theme and plugin development (not just page builders).
  • Demonstrated ability to work with custom themes.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript and PHP.
  • AI and LLM experience: Hands-on work with LLMs and AI coding environments (Claude Code, Codex, or similar), plus working knowledge of AI project management.
  • Git-based deployment workflows: Experience with GitHub, staging and production environments, and safe rollbacks.
  • Managed WordPress hosting experience (WP Engine, Flywheel, or equivalent) and comfort with DNS, SSL, redirects, and server migrations.
  • Membership and paywall implementation experience: Memberful, MemberPress, WooCommerce Subscriptions, or similar.
  • GA4 and Google Tag Manager: Ability to diagnose tracking issues, not just install snippets.
  • Experience with performance optimization and Core Web Vitals for content-heavy, ad-supported sites.
  • Clear written communication and self-directed project management, including issue tracking and changelogs.
  • Design sensibility: Ability to recognize visual inconsistencies, even without being a designer.

Nice to Have

  • Track record of shipping AI-powered tools or automations in production (e.g., content pipelines, CMS/CRM integrations, agent-based workflows).
  • HubSpot integration experience (forms, workflows, custom objects, website tracking).
  • Google Publisher Tags / ad operations experience.
  • Email platform integrations (Klaviyo preferred) and deliverability basics.
  • Solid design skills and experience improving UI/UX in a consumer-facing business.
  • Genuine interest in fly fishing or the outdoor industry.

Working Arrangement

  • Flat monthly retainer of $1,700–$2,500 USD, based on experience. Invoiced monthly; paid net 15.
  • Approximately 5–8 hours per week (20–35 hours per month), scheduled at your discretion.
  • Dependable weekly availability and same-day response to critical emergencies (site downtime, payment/ad delivery issues) are required.
  • A short weekly check-in (30-minute call or written update) and occasional technical planning discussions.
  • Work beyond the retainer's scope is billed hourly, only with prior approval.
  • Candidates must provide their own equipment and software.
  • We are open to a 3-month initial engagement to ensure mutual fit, with potential for ongoing collaboration.
