Technical Project Manager (IT & UX) - APAC Remote

Location: Shanghai or Remote within APAC (China time zone preferred)

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Project Manager to lead complex digital and e-commerce initiatives within our IT & UX department. This role is designed for a strong project manager who possesses a solid technical foundation, ideally having worked previously as a backend or full-stack developer. The ability to confidently engage in architectural, implementation, and performance discussions is essential.

You will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of technically complex projects, serving as the crucial link between development teams, product stakeholders, and core business needs. While this is a non-coding leadership position, deep technical expertise is required to guide architectural decisions, manage risks, challenge solutions, and ensure high-quality delivery across both frontend and backend systems.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Delivery Leadership

• Own the end-to-end delivery lifecycle for IT and e-commerce projects, spanning discovery, planning, release, and post-launch optimization.
• Translate business, product, and user requirements into clear technical scopes, delivery plans, and timelines.
• Manage dependencies, risks, and trade-offs across multiple cross-functional teams (backend, frontend, QA, UX).
• Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and maintain high technical quality standards.
• Coordinate project scope, timeline, and execution with other Project and Product Managers within the IT & UX team.

Technical Ownership & Collaboration

• Act as the primary technical reference point within project teams, leveraging development background to guide decisions and challenge assumptions effectively.
• Collaborate closely with developers and product owners on architecture, implementation approaches, performance optimization, scalability, and security protocols.
• Oversee both frontend systems (e-commerce websites, frameworks) and backend systems (back-office tools, integrations, databases).
• Ensure adherence to best practices in code quality, performance, maintainability, and documentation.

Stakeholder & Team Management

• Serve as the main interface between IT, Product, and business stakeholders, ensuring alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
• Facilitate clear and transparent communication, including planning sessions, progress updates, risk reporting, and retrospectives.
• Coach the IT team on effort estimation, risk management, and prioritization hygiene to improve sprint planning and delivery predictability.
• Support and enable development and QA teams by proactively removing blockers and fostering a structured, predictable delivery environment.

Process & Continuous Improvement

• Pragmatically apply Agile methodology (Scrum) to support efficient and predictable delivery outcomes.
• Manage backlogs, sprints (using Jira), and comprehensive project reporting.
• Continuously improve delivery processes, tooling, and collaboration methods across teams.
• Stay current with relevant technologies, frameworks, and industry best practices to strengthen the technical foundation.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Extensive prior experience as a developer (backend or full stack), coupled with a strong understanding of modern web architectures.
• Proven project management experience in IT, digital, or e-commerce environments, including expert stakeholder management.
• Hands-on e-commerce project experience covering websites, OMS/WMS, SEO, data analytics, and system integrations (payments, logistics, marketplaces, ERP).
• Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity or experience with RESTful API design and integrations.
• Excellent English communication skills (spoken and written), with the ability to clearly explain complex technical topics to non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving mindset, capable of balancing technical excellence with delivery pragmatism.
• Strong product and business mindset, understanding end-to-end value chains and customer journeys.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
• A minimum of five (5) years of experience in IT, digital, or e-commerce environments.
• Experience with migration projects is a plus.

Required Technical Knowledge:

• PHP and MySQL
• MVC architecture applications
• E-commerce platforms and payment gateway integrations
• Database performance, query optimization, and scalable architectures (e.g., AWS RDS)
• Object-oriented programming (OOP) and software design principles
• Frontend technologies and templating (e.g., Blade, jQuery or modern equivalents)

Familiarity with Technology Stack (A Plus):

• Laravel PHP framework
• Zend PHP framework (legacy systems to be discontinued)
• ReactJS, Bootstrap
