BitterBrains, the creators of popular learning platforms like Vue School and Mastering Nuxt, and organizers of events like Nuxt Nation, is building certificates.dev—a modern, developer-first certification platform. We also run the Official Vue.js Certification (https://certificates.dev/vuejs) in collaboration with Evan You and the Vue.js team.
We are seeking a hands-on Technical Product Manager to thrive in an early-stage environment. This role requires deep technical expertise to scale a secure, exam-based platform, acting as a product owner, technical translator, and delivery driver.
Objectives and Responsibilities:
- Own the end-to-end product lifecycle for the certificates.dev platform, from discovery to delivery and iteration.
- Work directly with engineers on system design, APIs, and integrations, specifically for proctoring, identity verification, payments, and other partners.
- Define and maintain clear, technical product requirements (PRDs, user stories, API specs, acceptance criteria).
- Lead the build-out of advanced exam capabilities: timed exams, question banks, grading logic, retakes, anti-cheat, and reliability under load.
- Actively unblock engineers by clarifying scope, trade-offs, and edge cases.
- Make pragmatic decisions around MVP vs scale, balancing speed, security, and future extensibility.
- Partner with design to shape simple, intuitive candidate and admin experiences.
- Own and evolve the product roadmap, aligning short-term execution with long-term platform strategy and business goals.
- Use product analytics and behavioral data to understand user flows, exam performance, and feature adoption.
- Collaborate with marketing and business stakeholders to optimize conversion and usage metrics (sign-ups, exam starts, completion rates).
- Explore, integrate, and responsibly apply AI-powered features where they add real value (e.g., question generation, fraud detection, exam analysis).
Experience Requirements:
- 4–7+ years in technical product management, engineering, or hybrid roles.
- Hands-on development experience working with modern web stacks, ideally including Laravel (PHP) and Vue.js.
- Strong understanding of web architectures, APIs, third-party integrations, and cloud-based systems.
- Proven experience working closely with engineers in fast-moving startup environments.
- Comfortable diving into technical discussions around scalability, security, and system constraints.
- Ability to ship incrementally, learn quickly, and adapt priorities.
- Clear communicator who can translate between business needs and technical implementation.
