What we are looking for
certificates.dev is developing a modern, developer-first certification platform. We seek a hands-on Technical Product Manager (TPM) who excels in early-stage environments and can balance deep technical involvement with rapid delivery. This role requires versatility—acting as product owner, technical translator, and delivery lead—while scaling a secure, exam-based platform.
Why Join certificates.dev
- Build a cutting-edge, developer-centric certification platform from the ground up.
- Enjoy high ownership, direct influence on product strategy, and measurable impact.
- Work within a small team characterized by fast feedback loops and minimal bureaucratic overhead.
Experience Requirements
- 4–7+ years of experience in technical product management, engineering, or hybrid roles.
- Hands-on development background with modern web stacks, ideally including Laravel (PHP) and Vue.js.
- Expert understanding of web architectures, APIs, third-party integrations, and cloud-based systems.
- Proven track record of collaborating effectively with engineers in fast-moving startup settings.
- Ability to engage in technical discussions concerning scalability, security, and system constraints.
- Skill in shipping incrementally, learning rapidly, and adapting priorities based on product evolution.
- Exceptional communication skills, translating business requirements into precise technical implementations.
Objectives and Responsibilities of this Role
- Own the complete product lifecycle for the certificates.dev platform, spanning discovery, delivery, and iteration.
- Collaborate directly with engineers on system design, APIs, and critical integrations (e.g., proctoring, identity verification, payments).
- Define and maintain clear, technical product requirements (PRDs, user stories, API specifications, acceptance criteria).
- Lead the development of advanced exam features: timed exams, question banks, grading logic, retakes, anti-cheat mechanisms, and reliability under high load.
- Proactively unblock engineers by clarifying scope, evaluating trade-offs, and resolving edge cases.
- Make pragmatic decisions balancing MVP requirements versus long-term scalability, prioritizing speed, security, and future extensibility.
- Partner with design teams to create simple, intuitive experiences for both candidates and administrators.
- Monitor real-world usage, exam performance, and platform health metrics for continuous product improvement.
- Engage directly with users, certification partners, and vendors to validate assumptions and refine solutions.
- Manage and evolve the product roadmap, ensuring short-term execution aligns with long-term platform strategy and business objectives.
- Utilize product analytics and behavioral data to analyze user flows, exam completion rates, drop-offs, reliability issues, and feature adoption.
- Work with marketing and business stakeholders to optimize conversion and usage metrics (e.g., sign-ups, exam starts, completion rates).
- Continuously track platform health, reliability, and user outcomes to build trust.
- Explore, integrate, and responsibly apply AI-powered features (e.g., question generation, grading assistance, fraud detection) where they provide genuine value, ensuring transparency and fairness.
Nice To Have
- Experience with online exams, certifications, ed-tech, or proctoring systems.
- Background in developer tooling or platforms targeting technical audiences.
- Familiarity with high-concurrency systems or time-critical workflows (e.g., exam windows).
- Prior experience in a startup or early-stage product environment.
