Role Overview: Technical Manager
A Website & Digital Services Company is seeking an experienced, hands-on Technical Manager to oversee the complete technical delivery of client projects. Reporting to the Managing Director, this role focuses on serving small businesses, including numerous trade clients, requiring a practical, results-driven approach and clear communication.
This is a remote position, ideal for an individual who can work independently, manage their workload, and take full project responsibility without daily supervision. The role demands strong technical expertise combined with people management skills to ensure internal teams collaborate effectively, delivering high-quality solutions for every client.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and deliver client projects from initial planning to completion.
- Work independently and proactively, prioritizing tasks and managing workloads in a remote work environment.
- Lead, manage, and support developers and technical staff for effective project delivery.
- Ensure client solutions are fully scoped, implemented, tested, and delivered to high standards.
- Oversee the development, maintenance, and performance of client websites.
- Collaborate with small business and trade clients to understand requirements and provide practical solutions.
- Manage hosting environments, domains, DNS, and server configurations.
- Set up, configure, and troubleshoot email systems (including MX records, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, email clients, and deliverability).
- Allocate tasks, set priorities, and monitor technical team progress.
- Maintain high standards of quality control, security, backups, and performance.
- Act as the senior technical escalation point for complex issues.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with non-technical clients.
- Maintain clear technical documentation and internal processes.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a web developer or in a senior technical role.
- Proven experience managing and independently delivering projects.
- Demonstrable ability to work remotely without supervision.
- Experience leading or managing other employees.
- Strong background in website development.
- Solid experience with email systems and configuration.
- Strong understanding of hosting platforms, domains, and DNS.
- Experience working with small business and trade clients.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
Desirable Qualifications & Skills
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or a related discipline.
- Experience within a digital agency or website company.
- Familiarity with CMS platforms, including WordPress.
- Working knowledge of PHP & ASP.
- Understanding of website security, performance optimization, and best practices.
