Technical Lead Developer / Lead Engineer PHP – 100% Remote SaaS Platform

In this role, you will maintain the overall technical architecture, structure complex topics into clear decision bases, and provide technical leadership to the team. Your efforts ensure our product continues to grow reliably, scalably, and cleanly.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Conception & Architecture

• Moderate technical discussions, drive them to conclusion, and ensure documentation.
• Derive sprint-ready work from technical outcomes: break down decisions into implementable deliverables, defining tickets/epics including scope, dependencies, risks, and acceptance criteria.
• Coordinate technical dependencies across teams.
• Ensure a consistent system architecture for our SaaS platform (PHP/CakePHP).
• Proactively identify and mitigate risks (complexity, performance, security, maintainability).
• Plan strategically: determine what needs to be done now, later, or never.

Team Leadership & Engineering Excellence

• Provide technical direction, set engineering standards, and elevate overall code quality.
• Accelerate team delivery through structure, clarity, and well-defined interfaces.
• Support the team in packaging work effectively: ensuring tasks are understandable, testable, and deliverable.

Product-Focused Development

• Independently implement demanding features in a hands-on, clean, and maintainable manner.
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers and Stakeholders to translate requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Contribute technical perspective to roadmap planning and prioritization decisions.

Required Skills & Experience

• Several years of experience as a Senior Engineer or Tech Lead in productive environments.
• Very strong knowledge of PHP and ideally CakePHP.
• Proven experience working with complex SaaS systems.
• Structured thinker capable of reducing complexity, arguing clearly, and ensuring decisions are traceable.
• Ability to communicate complex technical topics effectively to stakeholders for rapid evaluation and decision-making.
• Reliable and pragmatic approach, maintaining high quality standards.
