Established in 2015 to harmonize, streamline, and modernize the public broadcaster's infrastructure, the Technologies and Infrastructure (T&I) team is the foundation upon which CBC/Radio-Canada relies to propel itself into the future. This position is a combination of remote work and in-office presence. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers according to sector guidelines.

Your Mandate

The Systems Analyst ensures the management and support of server systems and processes within CBC/Radio-Canada's media production infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the deployment, support, and maintenance of physical or virtual server systems and processes.
  • Provide direction, planning, and coordination for projects to effectively manage the upgrade and maintenance of supported systems, adhering to official methodologies and change management processes.
  • Offer escalation support to front-line support teams. Delegate and coordinate the work of front-line technical staff.
  • Provide support, training, and mentorship to less experienced employees and colleagues.
  • Resolve moderately to highly complex issues affecting tightly integrated systems essential for the operation of critical applications.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for critical systems.
  • Develop and implement maintenance procedures, monitor system performance, collect system statistics, and analyze reported errors and alerts.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of technical issues and provide feedback to management and production partners.
  • Develop operational procedures and standards for new systems. Define, coordinate, and execute testing procedures to verify and improve system functionality.
  • Document issues and detailed solutions in appropriate logs to ensure continuity of institutional knowledge and assist in resolving similar future problems.
  • Implement best practices related to system scalability, supportability, maintainability, and performance. Configure and design systems for 24/7 continuous service.
  • Analyze requirements, evaluate hardware and software, and recommend necessary upgrades and acquisitions. Liaise with vendors to ensure smooth acquisition of required components and their integration with other systems.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement the configuration of new installations or upgrades, including security settings, directory structures, networking requirements, access control, capacity requirements, and interfaces with databases or other applications, to meet client needs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of hardware and software configurations, security, performance, and usage methodologies, with an understanding of networked/distributed computing environments and high-availability server clusters.
  • Scripting abilities using supported platform languages and tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of programming and scripting languages (Bash, Perl, PHP, SQL, PowerShell, etc.) and practical knowledge of HTML and XML.
  • Solid understanding of video and audio design systems, file-based workflows, and streaming codecs, including publishing to cloud endpoints.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, understanding of trend analysis, experience with backup and recovery procedures, and knowledge of technical processes and methodologies for system efficiency optimization.
  • Excellent understanding of network security, protocols, technologies, and connectivity.
  • Understanding of formal project and change management methodologies – an asset.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and effective time management.

Education and Experience

  • College or university diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Television or Radio Production, or a related field.
  • At least five years of relevant technical experience in television or radio production, or computer science.
  • Proven experience installing, configuring, and managing Linux and Windows server operating systems.
  • CompTIA A+, ITF+, CCNA, CISSP, PMP, or other relevant certifications.
  • Experience with network/system monitoring tools (Nagios, SolarWinds, SNMP, Syslog, etc.).
  • Storage system administration, including permissions, storage unit groups, capacity, and hardware – an asset.
  • Experience designing and supporting file-based workflows – an asset.
  • Knowledge of traditional broadcasting and television – an asset.
  • Experience using Docker and Kubernetes – an asset.
  • Knowledge of cloud architecture and system administration – an asset.

Skills and knowledge may be tested.
