Staff Engineer Role Overview

As a Staff Engineer at Ankorstore, you serve as one of the most senior technical contributors, driving architectural thinking across engineering squads and contributing directly to critical initiatives. This high-impact role reports directly to the VP Product & Tech and requires strong ownership, blending hands-on technical work with high-level architectural guidance.

You will act as:

• Technical Partner to Leadership: Shaping the overall architectural vision for the company.
• Embedded Expert: Guiding complex technical decisions within squads and unlocking execution velocity.
• Engineering Multiplier: Raising technical quality across the organization and promoting the adoption of modern engineering patterns.

You will influence organizational strategy through clarity and deep problem-solving, ensuring systems align with our long-term modular platform strategy to maximize customer value.

Main Responsibilities: Driving Technical Excellence

Architecture & System Design

• Own critical architectural decisions within one or more domains, ensuring alignment with Ankorstore’s technical vision.
• Translate long-term architecture strategy into practical, executable designs for engineering squads.
• Champion the adoption of modular, API-first, event-driven, and data-centric design patterns.
• Provide constructive, high-level technical judgment during design reviews.

Execution & Delivery

• Contribute hands-on to complex technical components, major refactors, and mission-critical projects.
• Debug and resolve systemic issues spanning services, infrastructure, and data flows.
• Ensure high standards for performance, scalability, and reliability across all squads.

Technical Leadership & Alignment

• Coach and mentor Senior Engineers, elevating their architectural thinking capabilities.
• Promote best engineering practices, enhancing code quality, testing, observability, and documentation standards.
• Partner cross-functionally with Product, Data, and Platform leaders to deliver coherent solutions that support our brand-first OS strategy and service expansion.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

• Explore cutting-edge technologies (e.g., AI integration, event-driven workflows, platformization trends).
• Develop prototypes that create technical leverage and identify long-term opportunities to simplify foundations and reduce complexity.

Required Skills & Experience

• 8+ years of professional engineering experience, including 2+ years in Staff Engineer, Tech Lead, or equivalent senior Individual Contributor (IC) roles.
• Proven expertise in designing, evolving, and scaling complex distributed systems.
• Experience driving significant architectural initiatives within fast-paced product organizations.
• Deep familiarity with microservices, event-driven architectures, and domain modeling.
• Strong hands-on proficiency in core backend languages: PHP or Golang.
• Demonstrated ability to influence multiple teams effectively without formal managerial authority.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of simplifying and explaining complex architecture to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Comfortable working in English.
