About Your New Role
We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to serve as the primary architect for our next-generation financial platform. The goal is to decommission a legacy PHP monolith and implement a modern, high-performance, and resilient service-oriented architecture (SOA) capable of accurately handling billions of global transactions.
As the technical lead, you will oversee our core billing, license management, and revenue recognition systems. This role involves engineering distributed systems primitives to ensure reliable, auditable, and secure processing of every invoice, payment, and reconciliation at a global scale.
Key Strategic Responsibilities
- System Re-Architecture: Lead the transition from a monolithic legacy stack to a modern Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) using the Strangler Fig pattern, ensuring zero downtime and complete data parity.
- Engineering for Financial Integrity: Design and implement robust idempotency patterns and distributed locking mechanisms for exactly-once processing of all financial transactions.
- High-Scale Data Ingestion: Architect metering and rating engines to process high-cardinality usage data, supporting complex tiered and usage-based billing models.
- Ecosystem Integration: Build and maintain scalable, secure integrations with critical ERP and payment platforms such as NetSuite, Stripe, Zuora, and Chargebee.
- Observability & Reliability: Establish world-class standards for performance, monitoring, and alerting across the financial stack, ensuring high availability and rapid incident resolution.
- Force Multiplication: Mentor and guide the senior engineering team, conducting architectural reviews and authoring Architectural Decision Records (ADRs) to shape the long-term roadmap.
Your Technical Toolkit
- Experience: 10+ years building and scaling reliable backend systems, with a focus on financial or high-transaction platforms.
- Modernization Expertise: Proven track record migrating legacy monoliths to modern service-based architectures (PHP refactoring experience is a significant asset).
- Cloud Architecture: Deep proficiency in Azure (preferred), AWS, or GCP, with hands-on experience in Kubernetes, Terraform, and serverless compute.
- Domain Knowledge: Solid understanding of global financial complexities, including multi-currency handling, tax automation, and revenue recognition standards.
- Security & Compliance: Practical experience implementing PCI, SOC2, and GDPR standards, with a focus on secure authentication (OAuth 2.0, JWT).
- Communication: Exceptional ability to translate complex business needs from Finance and Operations into scalable, elegant technical designs.
