Lead Developer - Mobile & Backend Ecosystem (Chicago, IL)

OpenKyber has a client in Chicago, IL seeking a Lead Developer to own the end-to-end technical execution of a mobile and backend ecosystem.

This role is ideal for a hands-on technical leader who can guide architecture, mentor developers, drive quality, and deliver a stable, production-ready mobile experience. The ideal candidate must be equally comfortable designing scalable systems, building mobile architectures leveraging Angular + Ionic/Capacitor, and setting engineering standards across web and mobile environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the architecture and development of an Angular application wrapped with Ionic/Capacitor.
  • Act as a player/coach, providing hands-on leadership while mentoring developers.
  • Own iOS build pipelines, signing, versioning, and deployment workflows.
  • Ensure best practices in performance, security, UX quality, and offline support for mobile applications.
  • Own the full architecture across mobile, backend services, messaging layers, and data persistence.
  • Lead design decisions for:
    • Event-driven integration patterns (e.g., kiosk; Backend; Mobile).
    • Push notifications and real-time data updates.
    • Authentication flows (SSO, token strategies, authorization models).
  • Ensure reliability, scalability, and adherence to enterprise engineering standards.
  • Develop and optimize engaging, responsive web applications and sites.
  • Bridge design and development teams, ensuring high-quality implementation of UI/UX concepts.
  • Ensure cross-browser compatibility, responsive layouts, and optimized performance.
  • Conduct benefit analysis and recommend technical pathways and enhancements.
  • Stay current with emerging web technologies, industry patterns, and modern frameworks.
  • Set development standards, coding guidelines, and quality expectations.
  • Conduct regular code reviews and ensure adherence to engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with QA to ensure production-ready releases.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field required.

Mobile & Front-End Expertise: Deep knowledge of:

  • Angular, Ionic, and Capacitor/Cordova.
  • HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
  • Modern JS frameworks (jQuery, Ember, AngularJS, etc.).
  • Responsive web design and fluid layouts.
  • Cross-browser behavior/issues.
  • CSS3 animations.
  • UX best practices.

Backend & Systems Engineering:

  • Experience with REST APIs, AJAX, JSON, XML (XSD, XSL, XPath), and template/MVC frameworks.
  • Strong experience with:
    • Object-oriented programming (Java, C#, .NET, PHP, Ruby).
    • Relational databases and advanced SQL.
    • Cloud technologies (AWS preferred).

DevOps & Tools:

  • Strong command of Git, SVN, or TFS.
  • Ability to manage CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ability to configure and host websites using IIS or Apache.
  • Experience building reusable JavaScript libraries and components.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving and communication abilities.
  • Ability to articulate ideas and bring forward new concepts.
  • Thrives in a complex, dynamic environment.
  • Skilled at collaborating across cross-functional teams.
