What You Will Do
- Own and evolve the backend and service architecture across product teams, ensuring consistency, scalability, and maintainability.
- Lead the technical migration of our legacy monolith to a modular, API-first service architecture, from planning to hands-on delivery.
- Design our event-driven architecture on Kafka and establish streaming patterns for team implementation.
- Make and document impactful architectural decisions, leading cross-team alignment and clearly communicating trade-offs to engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
- Mentor and develop engineers across experience levels through pair programming, design reviews, and code-quality feedback.
- Drive AWS infrastructure decisions relevant to service delivery, including deployment pipelines and cloud cost awareness.
- Identify and introduce AI tooling to enhance developer productivity and product quality.
- Proactively communicate technical risks, progress, and recommendations to your manager and peers.
Your Profile
- Currently working at Staff Engineer level (or equivalent), demonstrating technical leadership across multiple teams.
- Possess expert-level backend knowledge in a modern typed language and framework, with a deep understanding of modern architecture patterns. (Experience with PHP/Symfony and TypeScript is a plus, but not required).
- Have successfully decomposed a monolith into services in production, incrementally, and understand common migration challenges.
- Designed event-driven architectures with Kafka, including event and topic design, delivery semantics, and schema evolution.
- Strong experience with AWS, understanding its impact on service delivery, and proficiency with Kubernetes as a deployment target.
- AI-keen, actively exploring and applying AI tools and techniques in daily engineering work.
- Communicate proactively and clearly, both in writing and conversation, acting as an enabler and catalyst to help teams find shared technical direction.
- Fluent in English; German is a plus.
