The Solutions Engineer Team

Okta Solutions Engineers engage in all phases of customer digital transformation. These professionals are adept at connecting with customers virtually and in person through presentations, email, phone, and social media. We seek team players who can develop and deliver compelling sales presentations and tailored product demonstrations. Your role will be to educate Okta's customers, from developers to C-level executives, on cloud security best practices. Okta Solutions Engineers excel at empathizing with customers, quickly identifying technical needs through detailed questions, and presenting targeted solutions. This role offers a unique blend of technical acumen and business insight. As an Okta Solutions Engineer, you will enhance these skills by advising diverse customers on the value of Okta’s Identity Platform.

The Solutions Engineer Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Solutions Engineering, this Solutions Engineer acts as a functional business consultant. You will collaborate with Commercial Account Executives, leveraging your passion for technology and advanced ability to develop, position, and demonstrate product-specific solutions throughout sales cycles. This role involves achieving quarterly and annual sales goals for an assigned territory.

What you’ll be doing

  • Collaborate with the Corporate/Expansion sales team (serving companies with 300-1249 employees) as a technical and domain expert to articulate the value of Okta’s solutions to customers.
  • Analyze customer challenges and business issues, then deliver product demonstrations that align our solutions with their specific needs.
  • Address product feature and technical inquiries from customers, partners, and internal Okta teams.
  • Develop and execute Proof of Concepts (POCs) for complex customer use cases, coordinating with other Okta engineering teams as required.
  • Offer product enhancement feedback to product management to meet customer needs and increase value.
  • Contribute to team quality and efficiency by sharing and learning best practices and reusable assets with fellow Solutions Engineers.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of competitive analysis and market differentiation.
  • Participate in marketing events, including executive briefings, conferences, user groups, and trade shows.

What you’ll bring to the role

  • 5+ years of pre-sales engineering experience, specifically selling SaaS products.
  • Demonstrated passion for customer service in a client-facing role, ideally pre-sales, consulting, or support.
  • Ability to articulate complex technical concepts rapidly, including whiteboard explanations.
  • Proficiency with at least one standard network security protocol (e.g., OAuth, OAuth2, SAML, LDAP).
  • Hands-on experience in one or more of these areas:
    • Web development (JavaScript, HTML, frontend frameworks)
    • Mobile development (iOS, Android)
    • Backend development (Java, C#, Node.js, Python, PHP, Ruby)
    • IP-based real-time communications
  • Understanding of fundamental application security concerns (e.g., password hashing, SSL/TLS, encryption at rest, XSS, XSRF).
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Confidence in sharing knowledge with highly skilled and experienced audiences.
  • Ability to travel approximately 25%.
  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, MIS, or a related field is preferred.

You might also have (not mandatory):

  • AI & Emerging Tech: Expertise with Agentic AI and LLM-based workflows. You understand the use cases for AI agents, both internal and external, and have familiarity with MCP servers.
  • Diagramming experience for user journey flows, complex architecture diagrams, etc.
  • Experience in the Identity and Access Management (IAM) space.

The annual On Target Compensation (OTE) range for candidates in California (excluding San Francisco Bay Area), Colorado, Illinois, New York, and Washington is between $160,000—$220,000 USD. Your actual OTE, which includes base salary and incentive compensation, will vary based on skills, qualifications, experience, and work location.
