About Felix

Founded in 2019, Felix is a digital healthcare company dedicated to empowering patients in Canada. We build technology and customer experiences to make healthcare more accessible and enjoyable for all Canadians.

Felix offers Canada's first end-to-end healthcare experience, providing online treatment, prescription delivery, and ongoing care across categories like weight loss, birth control, menopause, erectile dysfunction, and acne.

About The Role

The felixforyou.ca website is the primary entry point for over 500,000 Canadians, serving as the top of the funnel, the SEO surface, and the platform for all marketing, brand, and growth initiatives.

As a Software Engineer on the Dotcom team, you will focus on this critical web surface. Your work will involve a custom WordPress block theme, its underlying design system, custom blocks for marketing content, and internal tooling for experimentation, analytics reporting, content import pipelines, and QA automation.

This is a small team role, offering broad responsibilities and significant input into development processes. You will translate Figma designs into production, build tools for efficiency, and collaborate directly with Design, Marketing, SEO, and Growth teams.

You Will:

  • Build the Site: Ship pages, blocks, and templates using our custom WordPress block theme. Translate Figma designs into reusable, tokenized components, maintaining design system consistency.
  • Grow the Platform: Contribute to theme architecture, custom Gutenberg blocks, and custom plugins, enhancing the editing experience for Marketing teams.
  • Build Surrounding Tools: Develop our experimentation framework, analytics and reporting pipelines, content importers, and automated QA solutions.
  • Connect the Systems: Build and consume APIs to facilitate data movement between the site and internal services, analytics platforms, and third-party tools.
  • Protect Performance and SEO: Ensure optimal Core Web Vitals, image and asset delivery, structured data, and technical SEO.
  • Instrument and Measure: Implement and maintain tracking (GTM, Segment, GA4) and A/B tests to support data-driven growth decisions.
  • Collaborate: Work closely with Design, Marketing, and SEO to scope work, provide feedback, and deliver solutions. Participate in code reviews to elevate team standards.

You Have:

  • PHP and WordPress Expertise: 3+ years in modern PHP 8+, building custom WordPress themes and plugins, including block themes, the block editor, custom blocks, theme.json, custom post types, and the WP data layer (not page-builder or off-the-shelf theme work).
  • Core Front-End Skills: Semantic, accessible HTML; scalable CSS (design systems, design tokens, utility-first patterns, responsive layout); strong vanilla JavaScript (ES6+) and Web Components.
  • Databases: Solid MySQL experience, including schema design, query writing and reading, indexing, and diagnosing slow queries.
  • APIs: Experience building REST APIs (authentication, versioning, error handling) and integrating third-party APIs.
  • Tooling and Environments: Docker for local development, Vite (or equivalent modern bundler) and npm for asset pipelines, and a Git-based workflow with code review and CI/CD.
  • Design Implementation: Ability to translate Figma designs into pixel-accurate, accessible interfaces while adhering to the design system.
  • Performance and SEO Fundamentals: Practical experience with Core Web Vitals, asset optimization, caching, structured data, and technical SEO.
  • Analytics and Experimentation: Comfortable implementing event tracking and supporting A/B tests, with the ability to interpret results.
  • Communication and Self-Direction: Capable of driving work forward in a small team with minimal process, and clearly explaining technical tradeoffs to non-engineering stakeholders.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • AI Workflows: Experience building with LLM APIs or using AI tooling for development and process automation.
  • Cloudflare: Knowledge of DNS, caching, page rules, WAF, or Workers.
  • Terraform: Experience managing infrastructure as code.
  • Laravel: Or other modern PHP frameworks beyond WordPress.
  • Vue.js: Or another modern JS framework for internal tools and admin interfaces.
  • Experience migrating marketing sites between platforms (Webflow, Contentful, or similar WordPress).
  • Headless or hybrid WordPress, or WordPress REST/GraphQL API work.
  • Experience handling private healthcare data or working in a regulated/compliance-sensitive environment.

Benefits:

  • Full medical, dental, and vision benefits.
  • Maternity/paternity policy.
  • 4 weeks vacation (3 weeks anytime + 1 week during the holidays).
  • Competitive compensation.
  • Stock option grant.
  • Remote-first work, anywhere in Canada.
  • Professional development opportunities, with close collaboration with founders and senior leadership.
  • Compensation Range: $0 - $130K.
