This Software Engineer Intern position is crucial for designing, developing, deploying, and operating software solutions that enable Twilio to deliver real-time, low-latency capabilities for next-generation communications. Twilio Software Engineering Interns are eager to learn and inspire, focusing on thinking at scale and achieving high availability goals. They address challenges related to resiliency, latency, and quality within our virtualized cloud environment. Software Engineers aim to develop technical skills and gain industry experience by working on complex distributed systems.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a Software Engineer, not just an "intern."
  • Ship multiple projects throughout the summer internship.
  • Learn from experienced Twilio engineers who specialize in distributed computing, real-time DSP (audio processing), virtualization performance, distributed messaging, and various bus architectures.
  • Take ownership of core features and services that will be deployed to users.
  • Embrace challenges, learn rapidly, and deliver excellent results.
  • Bring a willingness to learn and grow, and receive ample opportunities for development in a friendly, fun, and exciting startup environment.
  • Learn to develop impactful and successful applications.
  • Demonstrate continuous improvement in coding skills, proficiency with issue-tracking and source control systems, and an agile development mentality.
  • Participate in code reviews, bug tracking, and project management alongside the Twilio Team.

Qualifications

Required

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated keen interest in software development, evidenced by side projects or participation in the open-source community.
  • Possess an entrepreneurial and "can-do" spirit, with a proven interest in learning new technologies.
  • Experience writing code in Python, Java, Javascript, PHP, C, or C++.

Desired

  • Knowledge of unit and integration testing methodologies, with the ability to write, debug, and deploy testing frameworks.
  • Experience in data processing, analytics, business intelligence, and reporting.
  • Familiarity with technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Python, Scala, etc.

This role is based in our Estonia office or can be a remote position within Estonia.
