The Solutions Engineering Team

At Okta, Solutions Engineers are integral to every stage of a customer’s digital transformation journey. Our Solutions Engineers are proficient in connecting with customers virtually and in-person through presentations, email, phone, and social media. We are looking for collaborative team members who can develop and deliver compelling sales presentations and customized product demonstrations. These demonstrations educate Okta’s diverse customer base, from developers and product managers to C-level executives, on best practices for their cloud security technology adoption.

The Solutions Engineer Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Solutions Engineering, the Solutions Engineer acts as a functional business consultant. This role requires a passion for technology and an advanced ability to develop, position, and demonstrate product-specific solutions throughout sales cycles, while consistently achieving quarterly and annual sales goals for an assigned territory.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Collaborate with the sales team as the technical and domain expert to help customers understand the value of Okta’s solutions
  • Understand customer challenges and business issues, then provide product demonstrations that align our solutions with their specific needs
  • Answer product feature and technical questions from customers, partners, and Okta colleagues
  • Plan and deliver Proof Of Concepts (POCs) for customers with complex use cases, collaborating with other Okta engineering teams as needed
  • Provide valuable feedback to product management regarding product enhancements that can address customer needs and deliver additional value
  • Share and learn best practices and reusable assets with other Solutions Engineers to enhance team quality and efficiency
  • Stay current on competitive analysis and market differentiation
  • Support marketing events, including executive briefings, conferences, user groups, and trade shows

What You’ll Bring to the Role

  • 5+ years of pre-sales engineering experience, specifically selling SaaS products
  • A passion for serving the Customer, demonstrated in a customer-facing role such as consulting or support, ideally in a pre-sales capacity
  • An ability to quickly communicate complex technical ideas, often on the fly, using a whiteboard
  • Experience with at least one standard network security protocol (e.g., OAuth, OAuth2, SAML, LDAP)
  • Hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Web development (JavaScript, HTML, frontend frameworks)
    • Mobile development (iOS, Android)
    • Backend development (Java, C#, Node.js, Python, PHP, Ruby)
    • IP-based real-time communications
  • An understanding of core security concerns within a typical application (e.g., password hashing, SSL/TLS, encryption at rest, XSS, XSRF)
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Confidence in dispensing knowledge to highly-skilled and experienced audiences
  • Typically 25% travel
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, MIS, or a comparable field is preferred

The On Target Earnings (OTE) range for this position for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay area is between: $224,000—$336,000 USD.

For candidates located in California (excluding San Francisco Bay Area), Colorado, Illinois, New York, and Washington, the annual OTE range for this position is between: $200,000—$275,000 USD. Your actual OTE, which includes base salary and incentive compensation, will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location.
