Summary:

The Senior Software Engineer – Full Stack Backend Focused works directly with stakeholders, product, design, and the frontend engineering team to develop and extend our enterprise B2B APIs and content management system. This role is responsible for development in both the backend API platform (Java/Spring Boot) and the CMS (Optimizely). The Senior Software Engineer should be able to work autonomously, be very detail-oriented (think scalable architecture), and be able to see features through from inception to delivery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Expertise in backend development using Java/Spring Boot or similar backend frameworks.
  • Expertise in architecting scalable, highly available, and performant enterprise APIs in a B2B setting with strict SLAs.
  • Expertise in developing custom page and block libraries in Optimizely (formerly known as Episerver).
  • Expertise in architecting reusable and scalable CMS data structures for consumption on headless frontends.
  • Familiar and comfortable with deploying and testing code.
  • Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments, and clear code.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and management.
  • Understanding of agile software development concepts and processes. Must be proactive and demonstrate initiative and be a logical thinker.
  • Consultative skills, including the ability to understand and apply requirements, draw out unforeseen implications, and make recommendations for design, the ability to define design reasoning, and understand the potential impacts of design requirements.
  • Thorough understanding of backlog tracking, burndown metrics, and incremental delivery.
  • Collaboration, prioritization, and adaptability skills required.
  • Participate in estimating, designing, and developing to verify the functionality, accuracy, and efficiency of complex developed or enhanced software applications across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Ensure Company Data, including PHI, is collected, handled, and stored according to Buzz Integrations data security standards, which comply with the law and respect individual rights.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience working in a fast-paced business environment as a Software Engineer with relevant demonstrable experience in backend technologies.
  • 3+ years of tech industry experience with understanding and/or hands-on experience in managing modern software technologies including API, web, and cloud-based technologies.
  • Experience in interfacing with a technology team that works in an Agile framework (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, etc.) utilizing Atlassian tools.
  • An “execution mindset” focused on getting things done quickly and simply. Strong bias for action and an intrinsic ability to deal with ambiguity.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, negotiating ability, and evidence of enabling teamwork in a matrix environment.
  • Willingness to traverse various backend stacks and technologies including but not limited to Java, C#, TypeScript/Node.js, PHP.
  • A hunger for knowledge and keen interest in learning new technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred 5+ years of professional software development experience with the following technologies: RESTful APIs, Java, and Spring Boot.
  • Preferred Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • Application architecture and design patterns.
  • Experience serving as technical lead throughout the full software development lifecycle, from conception, architecture definition, detailed design, scoping, planning, implementation, and testing to documentation, delivery, and maintenance is preferred.
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Experience in the development of distributed/scalable systems and high-volume transaction applications.
  • Exposure to serverless APIs including AWS Lambda.
  • Willingness to work with headless frontend technologies such as TypeScript, React, Next.js, and Vercel.

Work Location:

This position can be remote for purposes of providing adequate support to internal clients; offshore teams, being available for interactions and coordination of work with other employees, colleagues, clients, or vendors; as well as for facilitation of quick and effective decisions through collaboration with stakeholders.

Working Hours:

This exempt-level position requires one to work the hours needed to get the job done. Therefore, one must have the flexibility to work beyond traditional hours and be able to work nights, weekends, or on holidays as required. This may be changed from time to time to meet the needs of the business. Typical core business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Travel:

This position may require domestic travel and attendance at various local conferences and meetings.
