We are Team Purchase Experience, a vital part of the Tech & Data team at Thomann.io. We are dedicated to creating a seamless and enjoyable checkout experience for our customers, ensuring smooth processes for internal departments long after delivery.

Our focus includes refining the Thomann Checkout Funnel, integrating diverse Payment Solutions, enabling complex Shipping Scenarios, and enhancing Self-Service capabilities for musicians globally. This is achieved through consistent collaboration with various teams and departments across Thomann.io.

Our cross-functional team currently comprises 6 members:

  • Software Engineers: Aryo, Andrew, & Fabian collaborate on new features, technical concepts, bug fixes, and testing.
  • Quality Engineer: Soli ensures confident feature releases.
  • Product Owner: Josephine strategizes customer satisfaction improvements and manages the Jira Backlog.
  • Engineering Manager: Sven provides technical and personal support, removing blockers for our mission.

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer (f/x/m) proficient in PHP and related Backend Technologies to join our innovative, evolving, and collaborative team.

We embrace a remote and distributed work model, offering options for fully remote work within Germany or on-site presence in our Berlin & Erlangen offices. We operate as a cohesive, customer-oriented, and data-driven team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work cross-functionally to refine the customer journey throughout the order lifecycle.
  • Integrate and optimize local payment methods for international markets.
  • Solve complex logistics puzzles by developing sophisticated shipping logic.
  • Enhance the observability of mission-critical applications to proactively identify and resolve issues.
  • Demonstrate API craftsmanship by building and maintaining internal APIs, and integrating external APIs within the Thomann ecosystem.
  • Take ownership of business-critical features while strategically addressing technical debt to hone architectural skills.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years of current work experience as a Software Engineer.
  • Deep understanding of PHP and common frameworks, such as Symfony.
  • Familiarity with OOP concepts, common design patterns, and complex database structures.
  • Proven experience in navigating and improving complex legacy codebases, considering business requirements and restrictions.
  • Proficiency in managing code and dependencies using Git and Composer.
  • Commitment to high code quality, secured by automated tests.
  • A collaborative approach to code reviews, viewing them as opportunities for knowledge sharing and improvement.
  • Daily work is conducted in English. German language skills are a significant advantage due to coordination with our German headquarters; however, English speakers willing to learn German will receive support.

  • Shop-Backend: We utilize PHP 8.4, maintaining full responsibility for our framework and adhering to established standards like PSR during development.
  • Shop-Frontend: Our client-side development uses React and TypeScript, with Tailwind for styling and design.
  • Data Management:MySQL and Memcached ensure reliable and fast data delivery to our customers.
