Summary
AxisCare is seeking a full-time, fully remote Senior Software Engineer. This role involves building, shipping, and maintaining our market-leading SaaS platform for the home care industry, while also reimagining software development in the age of AI.

What You'll Do
- Collaborate with product leaders to explore possibilities and aggressively prototype, often presenting working software to stakeholders before traditional PRD completion, then iterating quickly.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers in code design, systems thinking, and effective AI agent utilization, including knowing when to trust or discard AI output and maintaining code quality.
- Develop backend business logic, extend APIs, integrate third-party services, build frontend UI, and address codebase issues, leveraging AI as a force multiplier.
- Enhance system performance and resilience, upgrade our tech stack, and pursue innovative solutions previously deemed too costly.
- Take ownership of production deployments. Home care agencies depend on our software daily, so we prioritize instrumentation, observation, and debugging. Reliability is a core feature.
What We're Looking For
- A product-minded engineer who thoroughly investigates user problems before proposing solutions, recognizing that AI can accelerate the development of incorrect solutions.
- A systems thinker who considers the broader system dynamics beyond individual components.
- An experienced AI power user. You possess practical experience driving AI agents to execute real intent on actual codebases, have informed opinions on current model limitations, and employ strategies to prevent AI-generated failures from reaching production.
- A quality-conscious builder. High-quality software offers immediate business value and is adaptable for future changes. AI's ability to accelerate software modification makes maintainability more critical than ever.
- A strong writer. Clear writing is essential for remote collaboration, reflects clear thinking, and maximizes the impact of AI.
- Capable of leading 1–2 engineers while also independently delivering substantial features from concept to completion.
Experience required:
- 5+ years as a professional software engineer on teams building full-stack cloud-native web applications. PHP experience is ideal, but any object-oriented language is acceptable.
- Experience with React applications in TypeScript.
- Proven ability to build well-structured, comprehensible, and maintainable software that balances practicality with elegance.
- Proficiency in MySQL, utilizing both PHP-based ORMs and raw SQL.
- Experience designing and building RESTful APIs, and integrating with third-party APIs.
- Ability to work remotely from the Eastern, Central, or Mountain time zones.
- Authorized to work in the United States or Canada.
What We'd Be Excited to Find
- Experience building HIPAA-compliant software.
- Experience with EMR/EHR systems used in clinical care.
- Concrete examples of AI-enabled workflows you've developed that significantly improved team shipping capabilities (e.g., custom agents, evaluations, prompt libraries, internal tooling).
