The Product: Core & Growth

Our Core platform encompasses properties, calendar management, messaging, performance metrics, operational tools, and guest experience features. The Growth component focuses on customer onboarding, initial platform engagement, success enablement, feature adoption, and ultimately, business expansion with Hospitable. Over 22,000 customers depend on our core and connectivity products to manage more than $500M in monthly reservations.

To support the maintenance and enhancement of Hospitable's core platform and growth initiatives, our remote-first, fully distributed team is seeking a Senior Product Engineer to ensure sustained momentum and system stability.

What You Will Be Working On

• Dive into our foundational codebase to develop new features, maintain existing functionalities, and create product workflows that drive customer growth. Your contributions will directly impact thousands of short-term rental operations.
• Contribute to product shaping discussions, deploy new core platform features, and iterate based on customer feedback.
• Collaborate with Ben, whose favorite fruit is Strawberry.
• Leverage your software engineering expertise to craft intuitive and maintainable user experiences for both customers and fellow engineers.
• Partner with product, sales, customer success, and other engineering teams to develop and deliver solutions for critical problems.
• Operate within our monolithic codebase, supported by a Kubernetes-powered infrastructure-as-code stack.
• Implement and utilize observability tools for post-deployment tracking and debugging.
• Identify and resolve performance/resource issues and feature bugs that significantly affect business operations and customer experience.
• Refactor core platform code to enhance clarity, maintainability, and testability.
• Work with our engineering team's primary technologies: Laravel and Angular. Our tech stack, known as PALM-B, includes PHP, Angular, Laravel, MySQL, and Beanstalk.
• Embrace our AI-forward approach, utilizing Cursor extensively. With 90-95% of our production code being AI-generated, a strong understanding of generated code is crucial for effective review before deployment.

Requirements

Hospitable.com is a remote-only, distributed company. While your location is flexible, the ideal candidate will operate within European or American (up to East Coast) timezones.

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, specifically in backend development.
• Significant expertise with Laravel, PHP 7+, MySQL, and testing pipelines within deployed web applications serving paying customers. Proficiency in Laravel is essential.
• Practical experience with agentic coding tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot) in a production environment, beyond personal projects.
• A keen eye for writing testable, maintainable, and intuitive code.
• A pragmatic approach to coding, viewing "Code as a means, not an end," and prioritizing customer and business value over unnecessary abstraction.
• The capability to analyze complex systems, anticipate non-obvious usage scenarios, and understand ripple effects.
• Strong empathy for both customers and team members.
• Exceptional written communication skills, crucial for our remote-first, fully distributed environment where most communication occurs via Slack and Notion.
• Self-motivation and the ability to make independent decisions amidst uncertainty, without requiring constant support.
• Experience with queue/job-centric backends is a plus.
• Experience building production systems reliant on critical data ingestion from third-party APIs is a significant advantage.

• Competitive Compensation: Total budget for this role ranges from USD$134,450.00 - USD$167,258.30, adjusted for cost of living. International hires can be contractors; US, EU, or Australia-based hires can be employees (gross compensation for US employees: USD$123,993.09 - USD$154,249.72, factoring in payroll taxes).
