About the Role
We are seeking a Senior PHP Developer with experience in developing scalable PHP-based applications. The successful candidate will join one of our development teams, focusing on enhancing the Xtremepush engagement platform. Core technologies include PHP (Laravel), MySQL (SingleStore), and AWS.
The ideal candidate will be a proactive and driven individual, excelling at understanding and working on complex technical solutions that require high performance and optimization at scale.
This is a remote role.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate, test, and resolve technical problems, collaborating closely with other engineers to deliver core product functionality.
- Act as a core team member, scoping requirements, conducting peer code reviews, developing product features, resolving bugs, and contributing to overall team velocity.
- Work closely with the product team to understand the product vision and translate it into executable engineering product requirements.
- Maintain a strong awareness of non-functional requirements, including performance, security, architecture, queueing, and ensure these considerations are integrated into technical scoping.
- Support junior team members through technical reviews and mentoring.
- Ensure adherence to best practices and proactively suggest improvements to development processes where gaps are identified.
Your Experience and Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in a software development role using PHP.
- 2+ years of experience working with high-performance systems and solving complex engineering problems at scale (our platform processes approximately 1 Trillion events per year).
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical solutions simply to diverse audiences.
- In-depth knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and development patterns, with a solid understanding of when to apply principles like DRY and SOLID.
- Understanding of distributed systems design, including asynchronous tasks, event-driven architecture, scheduling, caching, and queue processing.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of sports, gaming, and betting concepts (e.g., markets, odds, events, outcomes).
- Experience with Cloud and DevOps technologies (AWS, Terraform, CI/CD etc.).
- Interest or experience with marketing technologies.
- Interest or experience with big data, data analytics, AI, and machine learning.
