Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior PHP Developer to join our core engineering team. This role focuses on building bespoke functionality and high-impact customizations for our global client base. You will work within a unique environment operating a robust, "raw" PHP application deployed in dedicated AWS instances for each customer. You will bridge the core product and specific customer needs, ensuring new features are scalable, secure, and seamlessly integrated into PostgreSQL/MySQL backends.
Key Responsibilities
- Custom Feature Development: Design and implement new, customer-specific functionality within our core PHP application.
- Legacy Code Optimization: Maintain and refactor procedural and object-oriented PHP code to improve performance and maintainability.
- Database Management: Write complex SQL queries, optimize schemas, and manage data integrity across PostgreSQL and MySQL environments.
- Multi-Instance Deployment: Work within an AWS-based architecture, managing and deploying code to unique customer environments.
- Security-First Coding: Manually implement security best practices (e.g., preventing SQL injection, XSS, and CSRF) as we do not use a framework.
- Collaboration: Partner with project managers and the core dev team to align customizations with the long-term product roadmap.
Basic Qualifications
- Deep comfort writing "Vanilla" or "Raw" PHP without the use of modern frameworks (Laravel, Symfony, etc.).
- Database Mastery: Advanced proficiency in PostgreSQL and MySQL. Must be able to write and optimize complex queries without an ORM (like Eloquent or Doctrine).
- Web Fundamentals: Strong command of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
- Version Control: Expert knowledge of Git and branching strategies.
- Linux/Server Environments: Comfortable navigating Linux command lines for troubleshooting and configuration.
Other Qualifications (OQs)
- AWS Experience: Familiarity with EC2, RDS, and S3.
- Security Expertise: Proven track record of securing legacy applications against modern vulnerabilities.
- Refactoring Experience: Experience migrating or cleaning up legacy codebases without breaking existing functionality.
